Gas Dryer Shutoff Valve

My nat gas dryer connects via flexible hose to a shutoff valve that is behind my washer. If I want to shutoff the gas it's a pain in the ass because I need to pull out the washer so that I can get to the valve. Can I put a shutoff valve directly onto my dryer and put the flexible hose into that? If not can I put a valve between two flexible hoses? Any other options? Move the copper pipe/valve closer to the dryer? Boom?

Here's a pic that shows what I am dealing with. I just put in a new floor.
You can see the gas pipe coming out of the rear wall.

That's black gas pipe not copper.
Code in most states, if not all require the shutoff valve be on the incoming gas pipe not in flex or on the dryer.
Do you have a basement? Easiest solution would be to re-route the gas pipe from below to the correct location on that adjacent wall.
You could definitely do it yourself. You'll have to get measurements then go to HD or the like and have them cut and thread the pipe sections for you.

I don't have a basement under this room. Could I just run the pipe along the wall and secure it with brackets to the studs? The appearance wouldn't be import since the machines would hide the pipe.

I've never seen it done differently... if you need to shut off the gas, generally you are disconnecting the gas from the dryer and are moving it anyway.

For what reason would you need to shut off the gas line so often that you would move the valve location?

...other than when installing a new dryer/repairing the existing one?

I pull it out once a year to clean the exhaust vent.

Longer flex line so you can move the dryer first?
