Fruit flies problem inside
Fruit flies problem inside

I hate flies.. they're damn annoying.. I was wondering does anyone have any luck using those UV light traps. I got one from Home Depot a few years ago but it wasn't working very well so decided to return it. I see those UV wall sconces that some restaurants have and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with them
something like this?
I save organic waste for my compost bin and on occasion forget to dump the waste in the bin for a day.
sometimes, gnat and fruit flies come in on my bananas.
I have to get rid of the source, the waste, and string up a fly paper roll to catch the strays!

Clean, clean, clean. Don't spend one cent on the uv light. There is a spray that kills them on contact. Fruit flies love anything sweet or fruity. Find the source eliminate it and just clean.
This. Check junk stuck in sinks. Check all fruits (especially bananas).
Leave a few coffee mugs with just a little bit of red wine in them all around the house. They love it. They dip they're toes in and then they are fucked. It's the best thing I've found to deal with them.

apple cider vinegar in a tupperware covered in cling wrap and a small hole, they'll get trapped and will disappear.
Most fruit flies come from the sink or trash, be sure to clean them out daily.

^This does work pretty well although I usually throw a piece of fruit in. Once they are in, they will only look for an escape at the edge of the bowl, so put the hole(s) in the middle.
Use a rubber band to keep the wrap on the bowl and pull it taught.

If you mix some soap in with the vinegar, they can't sit on top of the liquid and will drown. One more step that helps in addition to the plastic wrap.
Yeah, I remember when we buy a box of peaches or nectarines from Costco and if we're not lucky, an infestation of fruit flies ensues shortly after.
It is usually followed by 1-2 weeks of non-stop swatting/killing these things. They breed like rabbits and multiply so fast.
We created a "fly trap" using an old medicine bottle (i.e. Tylenol) and put in a small piece of banana and add some sugary water)...over the bottle, we attach a piece of paper we have shaped into a funnel so that the entry into the bottle is small...it was great trapping the annoying things and helping eliminate them.
Hope this helps. I hear open beer bottles also draw the bugs in but the trap I mentioned there was the best.

When I planted my grass seed, they used mushroom manure which came with a nice infestation of fungus gnats. Annoying little bastards, I got a UV fan/bug catcher thing and it works pretty well for moths and mosquitoes but the gnats don't go near it. Like others said, you need to strike at the source...
Red wine or red wine vinegar traps are a good start.
