Front porch

My mom has been talking about putting a roofed over porch on the front of our house for her and my dads 25th anniversary. We are supposed to be getting a couple estimates, but of course the common excuse of "I haven't had time" keeps coming up.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea of what a ball park figure may be, and also if anyone has any input on what we should ask for in terms of features, architecture, etc, that is important to have done during construction. IE wiring for fans, speakers, setting up screens that can be pulled down for buggy nights etc.

Also, they plan to put our BBQ on the deck, and if it has a roof over it, will we need some sort of vent hood?

Here is a pic of the front of the house:

Thanks,

Mike

I don't have an answer to your question, but...

Why are there two front doors?

They have a lot of options. Need at least an idea of the size and style porch they want.

2 front doors because we had an addition put on and I guess there was some code or something stating we needed to keep the original (left) front door in addition to the new one in the kitchen.

For style... They want a roofed over porch extending from the right side of the house to the garage roof. It will be open sans the roof. My guess is they will probably want to put the roof a bit higher just to make it feel more open.

Personally I think it would be nice if there was an upstairs deck as well, in place of the roof, but I am not sure if that would work (code and $ wise, though I don't think a floor would cost more than a roof).
