Flooring for basement....
Flooring for basement....
Ok, so I am having my basement finished off and wondering about the floor. Currently it is a smooth concrete finish, which is painted dark gray. I am turning it into additional play space for the two young kids, plus it will still have my exercise equipment/storage.
I am not looking to make it a theater or living room. It is a walkout basement, so the kids will be running in and out from the yard. I am going to leave the storage part with the concrete floor, but was trying to come up with something that could be used for the kids play part. I don't want to do carpeting, but was thinking of maybe just a very large area rug. I also saw a few sites that sell flooring in squares that lock together. They had carpet finish and also rubber finish.
Anyone do anything like this, or know of anyone who has? I am open to any ideas. Like I said, this is still a basement, used for storage and play space. Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions welcomed!

Since you mentioned the walkout basement and the kids coming in and out I would recommend an indoor/outdoor area rug. Something you can wash. 100 percent Olefin rugs are good ones to use.
tile is always easiest for the basement... no matter what, you will always have some sort of water penetration so it is best to just go with tile... easier cleanup... just a bit cold in the winters...
