Finally had it with my lawn

So just like every other person with nice lawn, I put in a request to have TruGreen come out. They give a free lawn analysis (for whatever that is worth) and a 29.95 first application. My company has yearly discounts so instead of wasting my time and money trying to get my lawn nice, at least I know they will do it for a little more. Plus I want to start now so by spring/summer its up to its full potential and filling in nicely. Then, once it looks good and full, i'll stop with them and take over myself again.

I don't use tru-green nor any other professional service. Instead I just apply Scotts fertilizers at the appropriate times and seed in the fall/spring and we have a very nice yard. It's not always easy but I have some friends who use TruGreen and their competitors and their lawns don't look nearly as good as ours. If you're willing to put in the time and do some research, you can do a MUCH better job on your own...after all who cares more about your lawn than you?

i'm certainly not looking for a show lawn, with that being said I just want them to eliminate most of the weeds and fill in the lawn with the correct fertilizer. It is really not that expensive and I would rather just let the professional do it for a while then I can resume again. To your point above Keg, I can not understand how your lawn would look so much better then their while using similar products. I realize I can do a much better job myself but I would like a good year under my belt of professional lawn care after which I can maintain it myself. What happens is the lawns down here in FL do not have that much real dirt under them. Most of the areas where new construction come up used to be conservation lands and wet areas, usually 6 inches down you'll find clay so normal grass doesn't grow that well. Also, we have st. augustine grass which basically blows anyways.
