Question Does anyone have a fountain?

We installed a fountain 2 weeks ago... well, we didn't b/c it weighs like 800 pounds... but we had one installed

Anyway, we already have algea in it... so I'm going to drain it this weekend, clean it out, and refill it. My question is.... what is the best way to prevent the algae? Do they have something I can add to the fountain that prevents it?

Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance

I would imagine chlorine. How many gallons does it hold?

At least you don't have an outdoor pond with fish. They are a real pain in the ass. If you put chlorine in a pond your fish will hate it because it burns them.

a friend of mine bought a new house with a littel pond/fountain thing in the back. He went out and purchased a whole bunch of fancy expensive fish to put in there. The next day they were gone, probably eaten by some cat or racoon.

I actually did some research and they said to not use chlorine. Not sure why, but it did say that. I found this stuff called Protec Water Treatment and Fountec Water Treatement. Ordered one of each... so we'll see how that works. It was also recommended by the fountain manufacturer... so once it comes I'll drain the fountain, clean it out... refill and use this stuff. It said one drop per gallon per month... so not too bad to use. If anyone's ever used this stuff I'd appreciate feedback, otherwise, I'll just give it a shot when it comes! Oh, and the fountain holds 55 gallons.

I hear ya about the fish. We were originally going to do a pond water feature type thing w/o the fish, but even the pond itself was a pain to maintain. Plus, if we ever move we cannot take that with us. The fountain is easier to maintain and if we leave, it can come with.
