Dish location

Any of you guys have your dish mounted on the side of the house? My last house I was able to have it installed on the facia board - right up near the roof shingle line, but in the new house, the way the roof design is, I think there will be gutters on most sides covering the facia board ( I think it is called facia board). So I think I will have to mount it directly to side of house - anyone do this? Do I need to put some extra 2x4's inside the wall now (before sheet rocking)? Or will the satellite company know and be able to find a stud through the vinyl siding?

The exterior of your house is going to be sheathed. It's typically 3/4" exterior plywood. You'll be able to screw right into that with no problem.

Have you thought about putting it on the roof? My installer was able to install mine right next to the fake chimney on the back of our house and it's perfect. You'd never even see it unless you walked all the way back in our yard.

Have not seen plywood on the sides for sometime - many have gone to the OSB or whatever it is called. My roof is Ply. So you are saying I could put it here? Not a bad idea - my house faces East, so this would work out great to hit the Southern/west. and shield from view and maybe even storm. In fact I could then cut a small duct into the chimney and thaw it out in winter during a crucial NFL game
Thanks for the idea about the on the roof by the chimney placement.

Perfect location. Nothing more ghetto than a satellite dish hanging off the side of your house. In our development, everyone puts them on the wall next to the garage and it looks sooo ghetto.

Mount it on the side of your chimney.

...and yes OSB is used more commonly than plywood, because it is stronger.

In our community in NY we had to mount them behind the chimney. Here they do not have a set rule, but most people hide them. There are a few that just mount them to a pole and put it somewhere in the yard, however, they usually hide it with flowering bushes or something so it you can't see it from the road...

Luckily I never had to deal with it since cable has always worked best for me...
