Dehumidifier Suggestions

Looking to buy a unit for a basement that's around 500sqft...some of the names i've come across I've never even heard of, but 1 or 2 are more recognizable, such as Frigidaire and LG...70-74 pint size seems to be the largest I can fine also...wondering if there are larger capacities that won't break the bank

suggestions welcomed!

Do you have a sump pump that you could drain it too? If so than the bucket capacity won't matter as long as the unit can accept a garden hose.

When we were growing up my dad had a Kenmore. The main problem was that if we didn't check on it daily the bucket would fill up and shutdown the unit. As a result I'm not sure if the unit solved the problem it was purchased for. It's a pain in the ass to have to go to the basement daily to check on it and dump the bucket.

no sump...i'd have to manually empty bucket, but i don't mind doing it if i can get my hands on a decent unit that lasts a few years

from what i've read so far from reviews, LG makes pretty decent units that have a 5 year warranty...granted, they're a bit noisy, but according to reviews, they last a while...i've also read Frigidaire's suck royally and last maybe 2 seasons up to a year or so before conking out

been checking out Whirlpool's, Soleus, and Delonghi as well...

check craigslist... i just bought one two weeks ago, a kenmore for $50 70 pint... if your laundry is in the basement, you can build a shelf over the sink/drain for the washer and run the hose there... u will never have to empty the bucket...

strangely, I've only read positive things about frigidaire units, both older and newer models. I recently purchased this 70 pint model on amazon. It was $190 when I purchased it though. You can find the same model in HD/Lowe's for about $250 if you prefer to go B&M

It hums along even on the high fan setting and despite what people say about emptying the bucket, it's really easy to do. pop it out, slide it back in. about 2 gallon capacity. I empty it in the morning before I head out to work. On rainier/more humid days I'll empty it out after I get home from work as well. It does have the hose attachment if you can run it to your sump or sink. As far as reliability, I always purchase my appliances/electronics with my AmEx so the warranty is extended at least a year past the manufacturer's.

This is the exact one I have (thanks for the pic, could not recall the brand/name of it). I have been using this model for a couple years and it is great - would recommend it. Amazing how much water it pulls out of the air. I use it in my finished basement.
