Condo pest problem

Day 1 - I moved in and neighbors mentioned they had an ant problem already... They hadnt moved in yet so there was no food, but apparently there were ants running around.

Day 14 - Caravan of ants march into my kitchen. Neighbors say the builder took care of their problem, so I guess they moved into my place.

Who is responsible for the initiall pest problem? I think since the ants moved in within days of the units being finished its the builder's problem.

I already complained to 2 representatives and made it very clear I wouldnt stop calling until someone came out.

This is going to suck.

Ant trap. Don't think spraying is a good idea although it will definently work. And maybe there's a safe spray?

And just take care of it yourself. By the time the builder comes the problem may grow out of control.

(oops, I spelled inital wrong)

Yea. I already sprayed in the a/c closet (since thats where they were coming from) and I havent seen one since.

If the guy doesnt call back in a couple days Ill just call it a day and set traps in that area.

Buy ant traps, inside & outside. $6-8 each. After you set them up, don't kill every ant you see so they can take the poison back to the queen and the rest of the colony. My problem was gone within a week.

I don't think the builder will take care of stuff like this. I could be wrong, but typically they'll only cover builder related items... not bugs. If you had documented this as a problem before you closed, then it would be a different story.

But, it never hurts to bring it up to them, especially since there's a precident of them assisting neighbors. Otherwise you may just want to get a good pest company out there.

Like everyone said ant traps.

And...if you can locate exactly where they are coming from...seal it off.

I've been in my apt for four year and only ha an ant probelm the first year. I found two corners in my ceiling where they were coming from and I used some silicone spray to seal them off. And I set traps as a back up.

I havent seen any since.

Seriously, just make sure you don't get the spray chemicals into your water supply. I've mentioned before that you can get Demon WP, which the exterminators use. I swear by that stuff. Just spray it around the parameter of the dwelling and if any type of insect crosses the line, they will die shortly.

The problem with pests in a building is they just move from unit to unit. They need to spray your unit and the adjacent units (sides, above, & below) to be effective.

The traps will help, but unless the whole building get sprayed, they'll just come back...

The builder/HOA should take care of spraying...

So randomly after no returned phone calls I get a notice on my door that the condo called in pest control to spray for ants.

Whatever.

It depends on the association, but all this information should be in any association by-laws and guidelines that they gave to you.

And like everyone else said....ant traps.

The ants moved into my bathroom walls and were taking over my cat's food. Hadnt gotten the traps yet so I just sprayed along the edge near the food, let it dry and air out, then put the food back.

Stupid buggers marched towards the food, hit the line of poison and died. I have a pie of dead ants along the perimeter...

Im getting the traps this weekend
