I used to sleep like a rock too, kid crying is something totally different. It'll wake you out of your deepest sleep to full awake faster than you can imagine.

It will always vary. We swing anywhere from 7 hours to 9 hours typically. Sometimes, she's just super pissed and will do 4-5 but that's pretty rare at this point.

So about three weeks ago Casey was saying maybe we should skip putting up decorations this year since the due date is quickly approaching and we don't want to get into a situation where we won't have time to pull everything down.

Then a week later she guilted me into getting a real tree (vs our artificial tree)

And then a week after that she wanted lights outside.

I'm looking forward to pulling everything down Dec 26th

I don't put stuff up for the sole reason that I don't want to take it back down. We put up a tree and call it good.

Two years ago I literally grabbed one end of the lights that went up the eaves and pulled it all down from the ground. Some of the clips are still up there

I'd be tempted, if they weren't clipped to the gutters.
Though, that could make it easier for next year, just clip the lights in

My house in arizona had little J hooks installed along the eves by the previous owner. It made hanging lights a breeze.

It didn't look super clean the rest of the year since they were right on the lowest edge, but it also didn't matter much because no one is outside during the day because it's too hot, and at night it's too dark to really see. I did consider, though, that it would be really tits to go install hooks or clips on the underside, behind the face board, so that it can't be seen from the street. But then I moved and don't care anymore.

Every time I put shit up I think about pulling the rusty nails out of the fascia but then I'm like fuck that...can barely see it.
Doing the hooks under would be a good idea though for future years.

I'm actually tempted to install some J hooks or go with the pvc pipe trick. I'm still planning it out though. If I do either I'll be waiting until April/May to get it all ready, that way next Christmas is a breeze.

Unfortunately with the highest peak, I'll still have to get on a ladder, but it'll be a hell of a lot safer than it was last time I put lights on the roof.

Take a piece of PVC pipe, heat it up over an open flame, inhale the vapors.

Everything gets sparkly and colorful for a few minutes.

The headache after is a bit of a bitch though.

I have used the J hook method for my icicle lights and it works pretty well. Had not seen the PVC method. That might not be a bad idea as well for doing the roof peaks which I want to do next.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the PVC method since I have three peaks to my roof, and they're all pretty high/steep. I just need to figure out cord routing so I can manage it properly.

Yeah for peaks it definitely has my attention as an option rather than having to put those clips up every 3-4in on the edge of the shingles. I will need a ladder no matter what since the middle peak is on the second story but with the PVC system at least it would mean I wouldn't need to rent a ladder every years since my current would be enough to install using the pole method from the ladder.

Same. The tallest ladder I have is 12'. I can get onto the roof above the front door and then use a pole to lift and snap the pvc into place. The tricky part will be installing those clips in the first place, but I'll figure it out.

I've got a 28ft ext ladder, but it's a pain to move around when extended. Motivation to look into this PVC trick a bit more.

You guys are champs. Anything taller than my 6-ft ladder, requiring me to break out the extension ladder, rapidly approaches "not worth it" territory.

And I'm quickly starting to feel like, "if I can't reach it on my tip-toes, it ain't happening" too.

Two years ago, we were not going to put up a tree. Cool, easy, not a problem.

About a week before Christmas, my wife changed her mind and decided that she'd put it up. So she got the box out, drug it to the dining room and unpacked it...Then called me to help put it together because, well, you know, she's never done it before. So I put it together. Cool, easy, not a problem.

Then she needed help putting the lights on, because, well, she's never done it before... and can't reach half the branches. So I put on the lights. Cool, easy, not a problem.

Then she starts getting on my case about it not being decorated. Oh, I see, so now *I'm* doing this... after *we* decided not to do this... and *she* decided to do it on her own. Cool? Easy? Not a problem?

So I decorate the tree. Christmas comes and goes... and the tree is still up; I'm not told to take it down so it stays. New Years comes and goes... and the tree is still up; I'm not told to take it down so it stays. Valentines day comes and goes... and the tree is still up; I'm not told to take it down so it stays. St. Patrick's Day comes and goes... and the tree is still up; I'm not told to take it down so it stays. Easter, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc. they all come and go... and the tree is still up; I'm not told to take it down so it stays.

Eventually, it's been over half a year and so now it's no longer "up late", it's "up early", so we go through the rest of the year with the tree up, Memorial Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, back to Christmas. Never was I not told to take it down so it stayed. But I had enough. December 26, I took the damn thing down and put it away.

THAT, is the zen of marriage balanced with the efficiency of DGAF.

And as of today, December 9th, 2020, I have not been told to put the tree up. I don't know if we (I'm) doing that this year or not.

I have a 26 or a 28 but it certainly isn't enough to reach the second story roof peak in the middle of my house. I would not just getting up there once to mount those clips and never do it again. Not a huge fan of climbing roofs but I guess there always is that option.

Luckily, my 28 gets to the highest peak no problem, though it was at a bit of a shallow angle. Had my fil standing on the bottom, just in case.
I ain't gettin on no roof
