You can get a self powered HVLP system for ~$100. That's what I'd do.

His is compressor driven.

Somehow I didn't update this here, but I've been pretty busy over the last few months...

Back in August my second LG appliance stopped working (the first was the fridge - yay!) - my just shy of 3 year old dryer would power on but not start. My initial gut feeling said it was the door switch (the light inside was doing weird things), but all of the forums said it was the thermostat and thermal fuse. Those, naturally, were buried way down on the bottom of the unit.

Top cover, control panel, and door panel removed:

Drum and front bulkhead removed:

All for these two parts.

And they didn't fix it It ended up being the door switch, just as my gut said - and it was a part that could be swapped out in about 10 minutes

Then in September, I took a week off of work to paint the office and the nursery. First up - office. We used Benjamin Moore Regal paint, which I really really like (shameless plug). First up was painting the ceiling because everything was this ugly yellowy white color that looked old, even thought the house is only 3 years old. Here is the ceiling already done, compared to the walls (that were the same color as the ceiling).

For the walls, I went with Storm, which is a nice grey that really makes the natural wood (in later pics) pop:

Once the paint was cured I put up my pipe shelving, monitor, and desk. I ran most of the wiring through the wall to keep everything clean and tidy.

I still have two projects left for the office, but the nursery (continued in the next post) took priority.

That looks like such a pain getting to those two parts. Go with your guy next time unless the part is super expensive.

Love that color and might have to steal it when I get around to doing my office as I am leaning towards a grey of some sort.

The nursery was painted two different colors (three if you count the ceiling). Once the ceiling was done, we moved onto the walls. The majority of the walls were painted White Wisp (it's a cooler white), but one wall was going to be an accent wall, painted Cushing Green.

However, a simple painted accent wasn't enough. The person I live with wanted more. So, back to Excel for some modern accent wall planning!

Once the chief architect signed off on the design, it was off the lumbar yard to grab a sheet of 1/2" MDF. I then ripped it into 1"x97" strips. For the runs that were over 97", the original plan was to join strips using a half lap, but I was lazy and just did 50* angle cuts to give the glue (I used Star Bond CA glue - another shameless plug) more surface area. It worked perfectly and the joints are strong as hell. Once that was done, it was time to treat the cut edges (I used drywall mud), sand them, treat again, sand, prime, sand, prime again and sand again. The prep worked sucked balls. But they were ready to go on the wall. I started with the outside border first, then the longer angled runs since they would determine the overall length of the smaller pieces. I used construction adhesive for the smaller runs that didn't 2 or more studs, and 15 gauge finish nails for everything else.

The design ended up being slightly different once it was on the wall, but I was just going with whatever looked right to my eyes. After this, I caulked the edges, filled the nail holes, sanded again, and primed the nail holes, and it was finally ready to paint. And done:

It was a fun project, but if I were to do it again, I'd use wood instead of MDF since there's less prep involved. Sealing the cut edges of the MDF so it accepts paint the same as the face was a pain in the ass. I've cursed this wall more often than not, but now that it's done, I'm really happy with it.

At the same time as all of this, I was turning an old dresser into a bookshelf. I'm annoyed that I didn't take a before photo, but it was originally a 5 drawer dresser. I removed the drawers, cross bars, and all of the slides, then filled all of the holes. Once that was done, I built three shelves using scrap plywood I had lying around. Then I disassembled the drawers and ripped down the fronts for some edges that I attached to the front lip of the shelf to give it a finished look. We haven't decided on a color for this yet, but it'll make it's way into the nursery too.

And this was a quick project, but the female's mother and sisters planned the baby shower. As a hostess gift, I was talked into building her mom an end table. It was built for about $50 in pine that I planed down to about 1-1/8" thick. I would've rather used a higher quality wood, but the boss said there was no need to go crazy. There's 2x6s for the top, 2x4 and 2x2s for the frame, and 1x12 for the bottom shelf.

I was pretty happy with it, especially since I knocked it out in a day, which is BY FAR the quickest I've ever built something I left it up to her mom to stain it, which she did using a black tea, vinegar and steel wool solution. I'll have to take some pics of it next time I'm over there.

I really should've, but thankfully the two parts I tossed in it were only $30, and I was able to return them. It was kinda fun taking it apart and seeing how everything worked - and being able to clean out all the lint from the hard to reach places

Great as always M! Good call on the starbond! Did you need the accelerator as well or did it work fine without? The prep of MDF is a good reason to spend extra on real wood (keeping this in mind for my future projects)

Thanks! Yeah, I used the accelerator. It was holding enough to move the strips around after 30-45 seconds. I love that stuff.

MDF is great if you need something stable that won't see moisture, but it's the cut edge you have to worry about. Once it's prepped though, it takes paint well. It's just getting there is time consuming. I toyed with the idea of using PVC boards as well, but the cost benefit wasn't there.

technically, after all that heavy lifting at the lumbar yard your lower back might be sore so I could see you maybe calling it that.

Dude! Awesome work, that wall looks awesome. You really did all that work to each and every strip of MDF? Damn, you are a saint lol. I would have caved so fast and just gotten a sheet of PVC and been done with it lol. You put in FAR more effort to your nursery than we did. All we did was paint and add some new shelf brackets lol.

Table looks great too, hope your GF's mom loves it!

Wall looks neat. Don't think I've seen an accent wall before.

Also @ dryer story. Good to know it's not that different from working on cars.

Great work as usual Morgan, I've heard tell that if immediately after birth you hold the nose & blow in the mouth a penis might emerge.

Same lol.

Though I'm working on making sure my daughter is on my side. None of this baby beluga/baby shark BS. We listen to classic rock and engine noises.

First time I played her the exhaust note of the GT350 she giggled lol. I think this is working.

This.

We are knocking on 2 months (she turned 8 weeks last wed) and it has been great. We are lucky AF though, she sleeps 8 hours a night already and slept for nearly 10 on Saturday night. We both woke up multiple times to make sure she was still alive lol. That said, I think we will be one and done. As amazing as it is having her around, I don't want to do this again as it still fucking sucks lol.

Also, buy the Snoo bassinet. You will get a mild heart attack when you see the price but do it anyway. Or find a used one online like we did. It's worth every penny to get your sleep.

My friend did/said the same thing. My kid sleeps for 7-10 hours in a stretch consistently. His sleeps for 2-3 hours. They are the same age within a few days and both girls.

Your call lol.
