Bought a new lawn tractor today....

I bought a new tractor today, then I remembered this section of AZ. I should have posted first, then bought. Good news is...they will not be delivering until April 28th, when we are in our new house. I will have approx an acre to mow and it very level. I bought the John Deere 125. It is an automatic, 20hp Briggs and Stratton, 42" cut, etc. I got it for $1799 plus two free maintenances and free delivery. I got it from a local JD store. (Lowe's is the same price and wants 69 to delivery)

My question is this....Is JD good or should I decline the sale and buy a Husqavarna. The H is a 20HP Kohler motor with a 42" cut for $1699, plus a free 10 ft trailer and 10% off.

Thanks in advance.

Excellent! If you look at the '05 model Husquavarna's they sell at Sears, they are the EXACT same models as the Craftsman riders with orange paint instead of red/black.

I looked at them last year and the frame, engine, rims, etc.. (even the pattern on the rubber foot rests) were identical. The ONLY difference was the color. For '06, they changed the grills to look different than the Craftsman mowers, but the rest is still the same.

I got a JD (leftover '05) in late winter and used it for the first time yesterday. I couldn't be more happy with the performance. You should be happy with your decision.

And don't get me wrong, I actually like/own many Craftsman tools, but it just seems underhanded to simply change the color of a Craftsman product to orange and call it a husky. Even Ford at least changes the grills/interiors between the same Ford/Lincoln products.

I almost bought a JD 125. I was very impressed with the machine. Good choice. The reason I didn't buy is I think I'm just going to stick to a push mower.

How much property do you have?

Even though John Deere is clearly the most reputable brand that doesn't necessarily mean it's the best mower at your particular price point. I'd try to learn more about the mower, the engine, and the warranty. I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. Personally I thinkit's fun to look up the stats and specifications on each mower and make an educated guess from there.

PS: Check out this link for more info.

Had my JD LT190 48" deck, for about a year and it is awesome. The cart is 179, so with the 10% you are paying about 400 more for the Deere, but I think it is worth it. My neighbnor has a Husq, and it runs great. All about preference, they are both great machines.

I saw this thread yesterday, but didn't reply as I had alot going on (errands, yardwork, and mom's for easter dinner)...

I think you did fine with the choice of the John Deere.

The JD L series is fine for residential work... I've been thinking about getting rid of my 19 y/o craftman and 28 y/o JD, and the L series is what I'll probably what I end up with. I missed out buying a used L110 (w/ 60hr on it) for $750 last winter...

I had been looking at the DYT4000 series at sears, but they have made some changes to it that I really don't like (and increased the prices)...

BTW, Husqvarna is made by AYP (which is an Electrolux group compmany) who also makes the Craftsman... Biggest difference is the color between the Craftsman and Husqs... (and the husq *might* have a powder coated deck).
