Best Carpet Cleaners

I would like to buy one instead of rent a Rug Doctor every time my carpet gets a little dirty.

I have heard that the Bissell ProHeat 2X Healthy Home carpet cleaner is one of the best, however, Sears, HHGregg, Best Buy, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, and Lowes don't carry it in stores. Anyone have a good carpet cleaner they like? I want something with at least a 13" cleaning path.

Don't put soap/cleaners into your carpet as they will leave behind residue that will trap future dirt/grime.

Just call a company like zeroRez to clean your carpets using only "water".

The last time we rented a Rug Doctor to clean the carpeting, we used the shampoo, then went over the carpeting twice immediately afterwards using just hot water to clean up the shampoo solution. That cleaned the carpet quite well.

A commercial steam carpet cleaning service did an even better job a couple of years back-- and I didn't have to do the work.

The problem I have with commercial services is that they upsell you on everything if you want a perfectly clean carpet.

We bought a carpet cleaner last night, and it did a decent job, but not up to my OCD standards. I will try OxyClean, as did one of my neighbors, to see if that fixes the deep dirt problem. If it does, I'll keep the cleaner. If not, I'll take it back.

I bought the most expensive one they had at Walmart (that wasn't a rug doctor) I can look and see what model/brand it is. It works great in my basement cleaning up after the dog

What's a basement?

Kidding. I used to have one in NY.

I bought a Bissell at $250. I use the cleaners that it recommends, however, I think I might try OxyClean.

I have a Bissell Proheat (original?). After about 5 years it was junk. The detergent left sitting in the machine started to eat away at stuff. It was also a pain in the ass to find a belt. Had to order it from Bissell. Probably just rent going forward or get a cheap one. The cheap ones (~$100) seem to get good reviews.

Hmmm, this is my first foray into the carpet cleaner world.

My dog proceeded to yak on the carpet last night, two days after I cleaned it.

You're not supposed to leave detergent in the machine

You can't prevent it. Yeah, you dump up the reservoir but there is still stuff in there. What eventually happened to mine is that it would start mixing way too much detergent with the water.

The one time that I used mine I completely cleaned out the bucket, and I rinsed the brushes and cleaned the hoses.

I remove my tank and rinse it out after every use

I have the Bissel proheat 2x pet. I got it because of all the dirt the dog (and i bring in) I think it works great. Key is to after done using the chemical cleaner go over it good 1 or 2 times with just water, and rinse/clean it out after wards.

Speaking of which, i should go get it out and clean the carpets one of these days.
