Backup in the basement shower and toilet

so this morning went to use the basement toilet... noticed water backup in the basin of the shower... then flushed the toilet and it started to back up... doesn't seem like any of the other plumbing in the house is backed up... but that was only this morning and i am scared on what i will come home to later...

how should i start??? plunger the toilet first to see if that clears??? then maybe chemicals??? should i stop at home depot and get a snake???

If it's backing up both in the toilet and the shower, I don't think a plunger will take care of it. You'll either need a (fairly long) snake or call in a plumber. It could also be the city sewer line is backed up. Might want to check with your neighbors to see if they had any issues.

crisis averted... there was a clog in the sewer line trap... i found the trap in the basement right before the sewer line hits the city lines... city side of the trap was empty, and the house was clogged... put on a glove and reached down the trap... pulled out a fucking rag and cig butts...

all is fixed now... saved a couple hundred...
