Air Purifier

Can you recommend me a good air purifier, whats a good budget? I'm willing to spend just under $300. It is for our living room, which is about 16 x 16. Cant decide between these two:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...1&blockType=G1

or

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...2&blockType=G2

It says they both cover 3500sq ft. And im a bit confused since I see others that are in the $300 price range but they only cover 170sq ft or so.

The main reason why im considering this is because my sister just got a pet (a lhasa apso) and I think shes having an alergic reaction to the pet. She feels weak and she had a slight fever the other day, but when shes outside the house she feels better. In addition, my girlfriend that has dogs in her house is rarely sneezing when shes in there house but when shes in ours she is sneezing accompanied by an itchy throat. She said she's never felt like that in a long time.

Will an air purifier work or do we have to return the dog? Which im making it as our last resort, really love to keep the dog. Is there anything else I should be doing? I know constant cleaning/vacuuming is a must!

Have the duct work for your HVAC system cleaned out and use a good quality replacement air filter for your HVAC.

we don't really have central air but I vacuumed the house and dry-shampooed the dog. House smells clean like-new condition now. Was just thinking of something to help with pet danders and allergies and air purifier came to mind.

Oh yeah sister decided to keep the dog..yay!!!

Do you have a furnace? It should have a fan setting and a filter to replace. Get a good filter, replace it often and it will help.

Get a Dyson and vacuum weekly or more.

Consumer Reports has shown and proven that air purifiers do absolutely nothing for the average home, even if you have several pets.

Vacuuming more and replacing your filter will do more to help the air quality than the air purifiers.
