.5 bath renovations
Already mostly done... I didn't take pics of all the steps... like ripping down the drywall, moving the plumbing, moving the electrical, cutting trim, staining... Here's some before/during/after...
Not quite finished, we need something (cabinet) over the toilet. Haven't found anything we like yet.
Oh yes, that is carpeting. And yes it is stained that bad around the toilet
Before
During
After

Looks great - did you do the tiling job yourself? How about some art on the wall above the tiolet vs a cabinet?

Stuff you can't see that I did was rip down the wall to the studs, move hot and cold water lines (cutting and resoldering), put up the drywall and all the electrical I re-did. Plus painting walls, staining the trim and what not. And the backboard I laid down before I tiled.
Hardest part honestly was getting the toilet back down on the floor and sealed properly. I ended up doing it 2x. The 1st time I used a wax gasket but I screwed it up because I moved the toilet 1/8" to make it straight in the room and it broke the seal 2nd time I used a newer style seal made by fluid master. I highly recommend it over the wax gasket... it allows you to straighten the toilet and move it a bit once it's down. With a wax gasket you have one shot to get the toilet perfect!
Ya art, never thought of that. I'll shoot that by Nichole and she what she thinks.

Just in time for you to cook your thanks giving dinner I bet you can't wait to get back to a working kitchen. I know when ours was down it *really* sucked. And eating out got old quick...

Looks really good.
Just curious about the accent tiles - did you put them in the "middle" of a single tile instead of at the corner of 4 tiles to be different?

I tried like 9 (honestly) different layouts. This one was the best compromise to the room; the accent tiles are centered in the doorway and centered around the vanity if you look closely. There one to the left, one to the right and one in the middle of the vanity.
The accent tiles came 5 tile pieces in one with a mesh holding the 5 together at the bottom. It is 5 separate tile pieces though.
Maybe I don't know what you mean by at the corner of 4 tiles? Can you explain a bit further.

First, let me reiterrate that I'm not saying there is anything wrong with what you did, it actually looks really good. You can tell it took a lot of work to cut the tiles like that. What I typically see is accent tile where four tiles come together. That way, all you have to do is notch off a corner of 4 tiles and the accent tile fits in perfectly. Basically, take one of your accent tiles and sliding it from the middle of the tile to the edge of the tile, without rotating.
Maybe this will make sense:

thanks, ya I didn't think you meant it bad.
oh, cool. Ya I never thought of doing it that way. I see what your saying now. I'll keep that in mind for the next bathroom. I have 2 more to do I have seen that style before but I forgot about it.

That's one of my cats following me around
Here's a better pic of the racoon
(his breed is a "scottish fold"; hence the folded ears)
and his brother (not blood) but the same breed who didn't make it to the bathroom photo shoot

Man, nice job. The flow of that 1/2 bath is retarded though. Open the door and the first thing you'd see is the toilet
If you don't mind me asking, how much did all the materials cost you?

Ya. Not much space to work with in there. The other baths aren't designed that way. There really isn't anywhere to put the toliet where it couldn't be seen from the door directly. Room is 6'x6' (sorta; it's not square). If moved the toilet to where the vanity is you'd see it sitting at the dining room table through the door.
These are rough estimates. I'd have to look at all the receipts.... and some of these things I won't have to buy for the next job I do (screws/tape/trowel... yadda) so they'll get a 2nd life (but not much)
$400 Furniture style vanity
$80 mirror
$160 faucet
$60 TP holder, towel holder + same style toilet flush handle
$70 lights (2 fixtures)
$30 new electrical boxes/switches/covers/wire/caps
$50 new plumbing copper lines/fittings + faucet shutoffs + connection lines + drain extention
$80 tile
$70 colored grout,thinset,tools,backerboard
$20 penetrating grout/stone sealer
$50 pine trim/stain/finish & undercut saw
$60 behr custom paint + killz primer + rollers
$50 sheetrock/mud/screws/tape/trowels
$20 misc crap (tarps/cutters...)
$5 solid red oak board (I made the door threshold) router and chisel and saw
-------
Approx $1200
I didn't buy low grade of anything; all quality materials.

Nice work. I once did work in a bathroom that size and it was a royal pain in the ass.

There was only one box above the original mirror. I removed it and added two boxes in for the lights when I had the sheetrock ripped down.. So just some minor re-wiring/nailing boxes up.
