I just have the cheap $40 one and use my own clamp. I couldn't see building furniture/cabinets/bookshelves without it now. I don't use it that much but being small fits nicely in my tool chest

Nice work on that stand! How does it stand (lol get it?) up to the vibration from the washer? Ours vibrates like a mother, got the factory bases just because I didn't want to deal with any issues from vibrations as now the warranty will cover any issues.

Thanks Sam, ya those expensive ones look nice, if I was a finish carpenter or something I'd spring for a nice one and I'm sure it would get lots of use. I probably use mine only a handful of times a year.
The stand stands up nicely! lol It does shake a bit when the washer has large items in it but the platform is solid and probably overkill. I built it like a deck outside. 3 sides are supported with some 2x4's screwed along the walls. The 4th side you see in the front are long 2x6's doubled up glued and screwed with support in the center so we can get 4 large rubbermaid containers underneath for kids stuff. Ours is way out of warranty now and a few months ago we had a leak in the washer. I made that top shelf removable so it wasn't too bad, luckily it was just a $15 valve that needed replaced.
i'm also going to steal that idea one day... it's really b/s that they charge you half the price of the machine for a stand...
Salesman tried to sell me a pair, I took one look and said no way for the price, wasn't much to it. But they do match, some include a drawer which is nice and a quick way to get them up to a comfortable level(not like I do much laundry though, wife doesn't work so she does it).

I've been posting some things I've done in the past that I've found some pictures of. Right now I'm still trying to work on our master bathroom, its been a month and a half since I started! So hard to do these projects with kids, especially when school starts and they have their sports and other activities all the time. The oldest has been "helping" me, she's pretty good at applying the drywall mud. She did help a bit on the basement drywall seams to start it, and I finish it up :-)

Thanks, probably the most inexpensive kitchen remodel ever, also the most labor intensive. FYI if anyone ever uses polyshades.. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STRIP THE OLD SURFACE FIRST :-) Just a good cleaning would have saved so much time, also would have helped reading the instructions on the can first!
I'm interested in hearing about your Z-Wave stuff. I've been wanting a set up for years, played around with linuxmce, but have never pulled the trigger. What do you use as your hub/controller? Seems like the plug in controllers like Samsung SmartThingsHub would work well with Z-wave.

I went with the SmartThings hub, mostly because of the great community and the SmartTiles interface. I have all doors and windows sensored (including exterior gate), two motion sensors, sensor that tells us when a package has been left in our package box, a Z wave Schalge lock (looking for another when they go on sale), Nest Thermos, Z wave dimmers, Zigbee exterior accent lights, z wave switched plug on the roof for pumps on the flat part of our roof, Z wave pool light, and currently working on getting the pool pump and salt water chlorinator on a 240 Z switch; all controlled by our phones and the flush mount Nexus 7, that wakes up when the front cam detects motion. ST was a bit shaky at the release of the second hub but it much better now and has become a fun addiction. I'm working on a plug that will only stay on for 20 minutes so my wife won't leave her hair straightener on to burn our house down, adding smoke/CO2 detectors,water sensors, and cameras to ST to complete it.

Thanks, I was hoping you would say you had SmartThingsHub! It really seems like a good interface and I like you can have dedicated tablets with the tiles. I like how you have it mounted on the wall, and under the cabinet in the kitchen. I went to purchase it today and it was back to $100, it was like $79 a couple of days go. I'll throw it on a camelcamelcamel alert so I can pick one up when it goes on sale.
We have had a couple of break-ins in our neighborhood recently, so its made me think about this a little bit more. We have a pretty open house and I have a nest cam in a perfect location that alerts if anyone comes in through any window or a door. I don't like paying $$ every month to alarm company, so maybe we can set something up so that it eventually pays for itself :-) We also have the nest thermostat and it looks like smartthings hub can work with that as well!
I would need about 20 window /door sensors, so I might just start out with a couple of motion sensors(almost same $$ as window/door sensor?) and maybe a siren. I also like the idea of a water sensor by the sump pump, pretty cheap insurance. This is going to be addicting :-)
Nice pool area and pump box, looks like the dogs are comfortable, I know I'd use those alot! Still trying to talk the wifey into getting a pool installed , she thinks the kids are too young still, safety blah blah.. Maybe in a few years...

Looking good, I like the vanities that show tile underneath. That blueish color on the back wall looks exactly like the color in our bathroom in the basement.
Pics of downstairs bath. I had a lot of hardwood flooring left over and had to do something with it. I built a custom vanity and used it within the shower(It's brazilian cherry similar to teak so I thought why not).
Wood floor planking for a ceiling always looks really nice, add the vanity and it`s a win win. I can`t tell from the pic but is the wood sealed especially in the shower.
I think that's why he said it's like teak, probably just needs some mineral oil to stay okay.

Thx for the comments. I haven't sealed the wood yet, I'm not sure what I should use. It kind of has a "beachy" feel to the room and we like that its a little lighter without a sealer that would darken it up. I'd like to seal it but retain the lighter look. To be honest I got a little scared when reading about teak oil/linseed oil and spontaneous combustion and have put it off for a while. After reading something like that it really told me that I have no idea what I am doing and could have burned down the whole house from a rag soaked in the stuff. It is a really dense wood and doesn't get wet from direct water contact just the steam. It's not going to rot right away but I'd like to seal it eventually if you guys have any suggestions on what to use to retain the lighter look.

Brazilian cherry is very dense wood. Very nice to work with also. The finished product is always nice.
How to put a wood ceiling on top of a shower.
1) prep the wood, use a 600 grit sandpaper to scuff the surface, and finish with a 0000 steel wool.
2) Apply an exterior finish to both sides of the wood to be installed (3 to 4 coats).
3) Install after it dries. Voila!
Do not use tung, teak or mineral oil.
There is only one option for the finish and that is. Exterior Spar.
Since your`s is already installed I wouldn`t worry about both the other side especially if you have a good fan in the bathroom and that you used a high quality wood planking.

Thanks Nick, I haven't used spar before, looks like it would work well. The fan is just outside the shower and I bought the boards unfinished from lumber liquidators on clearance for like $3/sq The boards are straight and very durable so far on the floor itself. The kids haven't been able to F it up yet so I consider that a win so far.

Nice. Let me know how it goes for you. I'm more interested in using it for triggering open doors and stuff more so than the outlets (Wemo is better for power management) but I haven't found anything other than smart things and security systems that can do the open door triggers.
I was on the fence with G-Home vs Echo but went with Google because of the potential. Yes, Echo can currently do more but think about how much Google is already integrated in your life. That's what sold me on it. Also, the device looks much better than the Echo.
I just did some minor electrical work in one of the bedrooms and while at Lowes, I did see these.
1st thought: Whoa, those are cool looking. You never see houses with switches and plugin receptacles like that
2nd thought: But... they are kind of unnecessarily big. But still nice though
2rd thought: Holy, why are they so expensive? It's $0.12 worth of extra plastic and they're charging 4 times the price of a normal receptacle!
3rd though: Ok, the plugin is officially the worst design ever. If you have one even slightly box shaped plug, you automatically lose the other plugin.
4th thought: (walking away) who would buy these things?!
Here in AZ, we generally need to overseed our lawns for the winter. The normal Bermuda grass goes dormant in the "colder" months and looks dead. As a result, we scalp it, de-thatch it and then spread Rye seed and water the shit out of it for a couple of weeks. Most golf courses here (open year round) close for a week or two for overseeding, etc.
I thought it would be a good idea to do this process myself, and manually. Really manually.
I own a push reel mower. I mowed the lawn seven times in a row, each time successively reducing the mower cutter height. Eff me.
Realizing it needed to be shorter than the lowest cutter bar height, I then used the string trimmer to reduce the Bermuda to a stubble. Really eff me. (pulled muscle in back stooping over with $35 string trimmer)
Then, I took a bow rake and manually de-thatched the lawn. By hand. In "bow rake" wide paths... With a pulled muscle in my back. That was really hard. Super eff me.
I then drank a bunch of beer, took a few advil and called it a day.
Next day I mixed the Rye seed with the starter fertilizer in a shaker can I use for spreading seed, spread it in three directions, and set the sprinkler controller to the "make water company rich" setting.
Two weeks later, it is coming in nicely. A few slow areas that I reseeded a few days ago will hopefully catch up.
The nice soft Rye makes me realize how much I don't like the Bermuda grass, but the Bermuda is one of the few grasses that can take the summers here. I just wish I didn't have to plant Rye on top of it EVERY.FREAKING.YEAR.
The grass seems to think so. Bermuda goes dormant when night temps stay below about 60 degrees. Our temps fluctuate about 30 degrees from the high to the low, and in the winter, night temps in the 40s are common.

Had me cracking up on that one haha. I remember attempting to work on my lawn when we first moved in, rented a power dethatchers, power aerator and overseeder. Had those sprinklers going for a good two weeks or so. When I got the bill I was shocked! Apparently they calculate your sewer bill depending on how much water is used so... Even though water is going right on the ground, sewer gets their cut :-) I still fight with our lawn every year, only thing I've found that does a decent job with the weeds all year seems to be some barricade in the spring. But I don't even think I can seed in the fall because I put that stuff down in the spring.

Talk to your water company about getting a second meter that is dedicated to your sprinklers so that they won't charge sewer for it. For us they only charge/meter for sewer in the winter (real winter Stogie) because no one is watering lawns in the winter.
