Bump awesome info. I have been weight lifter for a few years and got pretty bulky. With in the last 6-7 months i have completely stopped working out altogether. I am now more interested in becoming lean. I would like to lose about 20 pounds. I think im going to take a jog after work, and do some elastic band resistance training. We'll see how it goes from there. Thanks Whiskers.

Well i went for a 30 minute jog yesterday. Im in such bad shape i couldnt even jog the full 30 minutes. But when i wasnt jogging i was "speed walking". It felt pretty good though. Hopefully soon enough i should be able to jog the full 30 mins.

Another quick tip - Brush your teeth....I find that a lot of times I want junk food or something sweet, its usually because you want to get the taste of the last meal out of your mouth. Brush your teeth instead, it cleans your mouth and generally you don't want to sugar up your teeth afterwards...

I have been running 30-40 minutes after work about 4 times a week for the past 3 weeks. I have also been eating fairly healthy according to what Whiskers had listed. I have dropped 10 pounds from 190lb in the past 3 weeks. I am about 5-10 lbs off my target (mainly stomach wise) and otherwise I feel like I have a lot more energy throughout the day.

^^^^Cool....
Im doing pretty well also...Although I gained about 10 pounds, my waist size is about the same as before (about a 32)....I have been concentrating on my upper body and have built up my arms pretty well. Now that I don't drink, eating right is a lot easier....

Yeah I haven't ran in a while, but plan on getting back to it. I've kept off the weight at least, so I haven't really lost any progress.

Awesome thread , I'm gonna start using some of your tips. I used to be around 240lbs in June of 06 when I graduated high school , now I'm down to 175lbs as of now (I'm 5'6 btw , but well built). The last 10-15 pounds is a bitch to get off, hopefully using some of the stuff in this thread I'll get rid of that in no time

Another tip: If you need to eat something at night, I suggest fat free yogurt mixed with frozen berries (I use blueberries).....Fills you up and makes you poop the next day....

Been a while since a question was asked, not sure if this was asked in this thread or in others, so here's a recent question for future reference .. Actually 2.
1) Is there a time of the day where it's best to work out and/or get better results relatively quicker than usual? My workout starting tomorrow will be 5:30am weights for about 3 days a week, then I'm trying to squeeze in "special" cardio sessions at night around 6 or 7pm. It's just hard because time is limited after school which ends at 4, then I'll have to discipline myself to sleep at 11:30 at the latest. My homework commands about 4 hours every day.
2) How long do you recommend working out? This varies a lot with answers .. I keep my workouts, both weights or cardio, 45 minutes to an hour when I get around to them, but it seems everyone else likes to stay for like 2 or 3 hours. Insanity really.
Little background on me, currently I'm 6'0", 275 pounds, wish to go down to 225lbs by 08/20/08 which is my 22nd birthday. I'm "highly athletic" for such a large guy, I played hockey for 10+ years and have always been one of the top5 players on my teams .. My "special cardio" I mentioned is playing extremely difficult songs on an arcade game, DanceDanceRevolution. I do this for 45 minutes to an hour about 2-3 days a week, and at the end of the night, I'm on the ground gasping for breath like an idiot. It feels a lot like sprinting for 10 minutes, then 2-4 minute break before sprinting another 10 minutes again. I know it's cheesy to rely on a game for "exercise" but it's been proven to do wonders .. amidst a bad diet in my teenage years, I still lost about 15 pounds playing DDR throughout a summer. I usually went 5 or 6 days a week during that time period. It's a lot more fun, you're already listening to music, and crowds LOVE to watch a good DDR player. Quite the motivation if you ask me.
Weights routine and diet could be saved for another thread or my own personal journal .. Basically, I'm a college kid on a college budget .. At times, I have no resort but to eat ramen at the end of the night, so my diet leaves something to be desired.

Burning Brakes
a couple of nutrition facts:
1g of protein= 4 calories
1g of carbohydrates= 4 calories
1g of fat= 9 calories
and having more than 300g of carbohydrates in 1 day is not the best idea if your trying to lose weight. also, all nutrition can turn into fat. i know a lot of people that don't know protein can turn into fat.
1 last thing, since fruits and vegetables contain carbohydrates (sugars), they also can be fattening. but our body prefers natural carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables so they are less fattening than the carbohydrates in other foods such as rice, pasta, sweets, etc...

I try to stay out of H&F. Really because I hate thinking about it. I'm not in the best shape I've been, but I just got some results from the doctor. I'm not too sure how, but my cholesterol level is about 180 with my LDL a bit over 100, and my HDL being just under 40. So I really have to work on those. My overall weight is 212, and I'm 5-10. So....YES....I'm a fattie.
I've lost about 10 lbs in the last couple months. I've just been walking a lot more at work. Instead of using the phone to get in touch with someone, I usually walk to their desk now. I usually get about 9K to 11K steps at work alone. I don't check when I leave work. And the last 2 months I'm playing soccer a couple times a week for about 30 minutes to an hour at a time.
My goal is to get down to 190 - 195. And get my HDL up over 40. I'll probably be using a lot of your tips in here. Mostly my plan is to eat a bit better for lunch since dinners are usually fairly healthy at home, and try to get more exercise. I'm really not in it for appearance, just trying to be healthier.

I've been losing weight like crazy this month, I haven't been able to weigh myself because I don't have a scale but from the looks of it 5-10 lbs. My arms have a lot more definition and I'm overall a lot skinnier, I guess getting that job at school paid off . I just do pullups whenever there's nothing going on and I have to move around really heavy stuff all day.

Whiskers- ever heard of "Alli"?
I'm sure you have.
One of my co-workers is on it- and loves it.
It supposedly contains "fat blockers" that keep your system from absorbing the fat in your diet. It's intended for use paired with a low fat diet.
If you should slip up- and eat something high in fat (get ready for this) it passes through your body at an extremely high rate and (get this) could potentially cause you to shit yourself!
I read testimonials on their website- even a warning that reccommended bringing a change of clothes to work when first using it- OR (this is the part that kills me) wearing dark colored pants!
Dark colored pants!?
Who the hell are you kidding?
"Dave, can you see the stain on my ass? I shit myself"
"No Bill, can't see a thing- good idea wearing your brown corduroys!"
I'm sure you have.
