i've used gloves when i first started out. they were good, but, after awhile, i ended up using a pair of car wash sponges.

sponges work really well. thick to prevent calluses, but also may allow you to push more by sqeezing hard (flex the forearms) while lifting.

now, i don't wear anything. i have calluses, but they're not noticeable...

yup...

straps work really well...

Meh, if he was wearing straps he would be able to spin that bar over his head like a propellar

Granted i'm splitting some hairs here. It's just important to not let your grip fall behind, so avoid straps and gloves at all costs.

I've had Calluses on both my hands since grade 2 elementary from playing on the monkey bars at the school play ground....

I do wear gloves to work out to prevent getting rougher hands, but I still can't get rid of those calluses...

Anybody know how to get rid of Calluses from the hands????????

I would file it with something like this first:

http://www.medco-school.com/Supply/P...?leaf_id=41300

Then moisturize.

Without gloves, I get calloused hands that are all torn up, and with gloves, I get calloused hands that are at least somewhat smooth. And, unless you sweat a lot, I don't see how gloves would make your grip strength worse. I have much better grip with bare hands. Wearing gloves makes my grip strength better because it's harder to grip the weight.

You don't understand. I'm talking about grip strength without the gloves. Meaning the amount of force you can squeeze your hand together. Not which one has a better grip.

Still not exactly sure what you're saying. All I'm saying is that wearing gloves trains my grip strength more than not wearing gloves, because wearing gloves effectively makes the bar thicker, making it more difficult to hold the bar.

Interesting.

My point was that without gloves, you don't have as much grip; therefore, need to squeeze the bar harder.
