Is steak healthy?
For the past few months, ive found a love for grilling steaks, and try to eat steak every chance i get. (maybe 2 or 3 times a week) I always figured steak to be a protein source, never really thinking about the fat or calorie content until just now.
Can anyone tell me how bad steak can be for you (calorie, x grams of fat, etc..). I usually eat at 12 -14 ounce steak (usually tenderloin) cooked medium rare. Thanks.

Everything in moderation my friend, particularly red meat. It is a very significant source of protein and all the essential amino acids, as is all animal meat, but of course it is high in cholesterol. A single 12 oz steak is probably going to give you at least 70% of your daily fat content, as well as between 500-1000 calories. Whether or not this is appropriate for your diet is wholly dependant on the rest of your intake as well as the cut of meat, and the way you prepare it. No one is going to be able to give you a simple answer. Like I said, everything in moderation.

steaks are good if and only if you get lean steaks. Sure its going to be dry but hey, less fat. Also, grilled chicken is a good alternative...very lean and full of protein.

Steak...? Well, good protein...but, it's still below good fish and chicken in terms of overall benefits.

One on the right for me
It might depend on what your goals are. When I stopped eating meat about 8 years ago I dropped about 10 pounds. I still ate a ton of food but eliminating meat kept me a little lighter. I dont see a problem with eating it every so often...every day might be overkill, otherwise, enjoy. Dont forget horseradish

people with high cholesterol level should keep red meat to a minimal... especially if it runs in the family.

Beef is also a good source of creatine. Lean beef in concert with an overall healthy diet is OK IMO. I can only eat so much chicken. Need the fish and beef too.

I keep it lean and sparingly. I stick to chicken for the most part.

shrimp along with most seafood is extremely lean in terms of fat, if you happen to eat the head of the shrimp (you know some people do that) then it has a lot of cholesterol. But overall everything in moderation, you won't have a problem. But fish and chicken breast w/o skin is by far the two best protein sources with speaking of meat. Don't forget the legumes, beans, etc. that are loaded with protein as well...
