Haha that's a funny story. Hey at least you got a PR. That's awesome.
I think a week off after the 10 miler will be good. I guess I'll know for sure if that's the case in a little over a week.

We just finished our run today. 10.7 miles in 2:03. Not too bad, but damn, my legs/knees are sore. Looking forward to some rest now, although the wife informed me we still run Monday (5 miles), Tuesday (4 miles) and Wednesday (3 miles), but stop after that until the race next Sunday.

Yep, feeling really good. The legs are nearly sore-free at this point.
Thanks much! I'm really looking forward to it, and of course, the celebratory beers afterward.

^ Thanks. Yeah, we will definitely be taking it slow from the start. My wife counts on me to regulater the pace, so I'm already counting on slowing it down at times.

Just got home from our first 1/2 marathon. We finished it!!!
It was pretty tough, but we did it. No record breaking time, that's for sure, but whatever, we just wanted to run it without having to walk any portion of it. We finished in 2:31 unoffiicially. We'll have to look online to get our official time, but that's what my wife's GPS watch said.
There was such an array of different kinds of runners out there. I was shocked to see what some of these people were wearing and how some that looked like they were out of shape were running very good times. Then there were the ones that looked very fit, yet we were passing them.
Overall it was a great experience and hopefully not the last one we do. Looking forward to a nice cold IPA and some grub, and most of all, some rest.

Thanks, guys!
Today I feel MUCH better than yesterday. My calves yesterday were super tight and sore, as well as my feet, and I had a lingering headache most of the day/night, which I suspect was from dehydration. Today though I'm just a little sore but functioning fine otherwise.
We got our official times via the website yesterday. 2:32, so one minute off, but still, no complaints, we finished it and were right in the middle of the pack with the average time being 2:29.
Still revelling in the fact that we actually did it!

I just ran a little over 10mi. today myself, and walked 2 back home. My legs were on fire the whole way back, but I feel much better now after having relaxed for a little bit. Im going to try and push 12 this Tuesday after school.
Which IPA did you drink to celebrate?

^ Thanks bro! Glad to hear you pumped out 10+ miles today. I'd be cautious about running the 12 tomorrow though. We did the 10.7 miles the weekend before our race and the most after that during the week was 5 miles and it took the entire week for my legs to recover and feel really good for race day. Just warning you to make sure to let your legs recover for the big day.
I had a 22oz Firestone-Walker Union Jack IPA that I thuroughly enjoyed that afternoon. It was delicious as always, especially after finally accomplishing our goal of the 1/2.
I'm actually going to be running tonight for the first time since the race. Planning on just 5 miles. My wife has already ran twice since the race, but I just haven't had the desire to go back out there until now. I have been really slacking and kicking back the brews each night, so I feel like before I waste all my training, I might as well stick with the running and continue and try to slim down even more.
Good luck on your week of running leading up to the race, and of course, good luck on race day! Just make sure you hydrate good the night before the big day. Good luck man!

I'd do whatever you feel comfortable with, I think a good part of a taper is mental anyway. You just want to be rested and allow your muscles to rebuild themselves.
yeah same make/model of shoe should be fine, but hey you never know...
I actually have a pretty bad shoe story...about a year ago I had a race about 2 hours south of me and stayed at my parents house the night before, that morning I woke up an realized that I had forgot my shoes. It was about 7am and in a small town with nothing open except a Wal-Mart, so I ran a 1/2 marathon in a brand new pair of $20 shoes from Wal-Mart. Ran a PR, but my feet were f'd! I could feel the blisters coming on as I was running
All in all it worked out and was a good story and I'll never forget my shoes again

on to the next one...
I have about 450-500 miles on my Nimbus 10's ($125) right now and desperately need some new shoes. I'm looking at either the Kayano 16's ($140) or Kinetic 2's ($160). How was the jump from Nimbus to Kayano? Satisfied, or should I consider the Kinetic's or even the Kinsei 3's ($180)?
I'm a big boy at 195 lbs., so I need some cushion for my 550 mile summer ahead - training for a 1/2 in June and a full in Oct...

^ I'm 225lbs, so I'm big, too. The Kayano's were recommended by the RoadRunner store I bought them from due to the fact they're made for bigger guys, as I've read in reviews as well. They're definitely up there in comfort/impact cushioning of all the running shoes I've had in the past. The only other pair I can remember being slightly better were an older version of the Kayano's I had a few years ago.

Ive run in the kayano's once... this last 10 mile run I did. And During the run I must say I felt pretty good. I'll let you know how they did after this coming Sunday.
I know they're on the kayano 16's but these 15's were a steal @$99.

rethinking what I postedabove, after having run 10 miles in these shoes for the first time the other day, they held up pretty damn well and cushioned me pretty well too. Im excited to run on Sunday with them.
