it is still tight. the band is still healing. We just bought a home gym, so i can use the leg exercises on that. I can run about 100 yards now w/o issues.

The dr said it can take 5-7 months to fully heal. we will see.

My friend was playing basketball a few weeks ago and blew up his patellar tendon. Said he could feel his lower leg hit his upper leg. Major surgery, major leg brace. It's been about 4 weeks and they just let him move it for the first time. He's pretty bummed - he'll never be allowed to run or play basketball again. The best part is both of his cars are stick shift (right now he couldn't even drive an automatic anyway), so he can't even drive.

it was painful, since the clutch was pretty heavy. next one will be pdk!

I ran my 1st mile in almost 3 months today. I have the day off as i burned up my last vacation day.

my knee is alittle tight yet since the tendon is healing, but it doesn't hurt from running. I need to be real careful to not overwork it or go too much too soon.

I ran 1.1 mile at a slow 9 min pace. it felt good, man i miss running....

Great to hear But as Westas said, don't push it to hard, you don't want to re-injure it then you are screwed for even longer. I have the same problem though. I am always anxious to get back to doing something that I enjoy!

I've been following this thread for awhile.

I was never a distance runner. Ran 100m in college, although I was nowhere near super competitive, mostly in the mid-high 10s. After college, I religiously ran a mile everyday (including holidays and weekends) in the evening, as fast as I could usually in high 5's.

I ruptured my right achilles tendon in May of 2006 playing basketball and had to have reconstructive surgery. So I feel your pain somewhat. I was able to start running around October of 2006, and by June of 2008 I was able to almost get back to running miles in similar times. Got down to low 6's. But I could never get back full strength in my right calf, and I could barely break 11 seconds (on a good day) on a 100m dash after the injury.

Since I started up at my firm in January of 2009, I haven't really been running or lifting since. I decided to start running again last week, but its still a struggle to get myself to go after 8-10 hours of work.

But good to hear dallison! I'll probably check in here once in awhile to see your progress.

^ - I was in the same boat when I had a full time job. It was very difficult to get off work after being there forever and go running. Even more so when it was winter time and got dark at 5.

On days when I can't go for a decent run I try to at least do a mile. Even if I feel like crap. It makes a huge difference

Just finish a hour run/jog and my tibialis anterior muscle on my left leg (the muscle on your left leg, left of your shin) is killing me. I think it's because I didn't warm it up by doing a brisk walk first, any ideas?

Tap your toe on the floor as fasst as you can for 30 sec on each foot x 2. Do one foot at a time. Then walk on your heels for about 10 yds. Try walking forward and then backwards, that should help you warm up before you began your run.

not really running at all since the knee is still a little tender. i don't think in a bad way, but still recovering type of pain. The dr said it could take 5-7 months to fully recover. We're only at 4 months now. I can do my normal day to day activities w/o any problems. I can feela little tension when i take 2 steps at a time, but not bad.

I rode 15 miles in 40 minutes tonight, so far a personal record. I was on the home gym for 20 or 30 min beforehand so i think that may have helped.

i am still planning on running in the spring. I think i'll not run until the end of feb, unless i see someone else running and i feel the need.

I can't believe the number of people I see running outside lately. It hasn't been over 25 degrees here for 2 weeks - I hate the treadmill but there's no way I'm running outside when it's less than 40 degrees.

x2. Either you don't have good running shoes (fitted for your stride, etc) or the shoes you are running in are worn out.

Anyone run with sunglasses in the evening/at night? I was thinking of getting some red tinted lenses for my sunglasses because I hear they are great for bringing out more light and showing contrast in low light, such as at dusk. Good idea?

Also anyone have any input on transition lenses?

I don't really run with sunglasses, but cycle with them when ever I ride. I use a yellow lenses in my mountain biking glasses for low light levels. It really helps increase the contrast of light. I don't have a red lenses, but I believe these do the same as a yellow lens. You can find some cheaper pairs to try out on cycling sites like bikenashbar or performancebicycle.

I don't have any input on the transition lenses, sorry. For what they cost though, you can get a pair of glasses with multiple lenses for much less .

^ Well I just recently got a pair of Oakley's (perfect, snug fit) for cheap since I had a gift card and was on their site browsing the difference in lense colors and tints and saw that by far the yellow lenses are best in low light. So I am going to look into a pair of yellow lenses.

^ Yeah, I just recently got a new pair of Oakley snow goggles with the High Intensity Yellow lens for skiing and used them last week. They really intensify what light is out.

Weather finally broke 40 degrees here, so I took geared up and headed outdoors after a long winter on the treadmill. I can barely walk today, man the concrete is brutal compared to the treadmill, but it was SO nice to get back outside.

good to see the weather breaking for people to get out. I still haven't run much yet. This healing process is most def lengthy. I stubbed my pinky toe pretty bad yesterday. It might be broke but prob not, so that will keep me from doing anything for a few more weeks. blah

i'm back in the saddle again. i ran 4 miles on sunday at a real slow 8.5-9 min mile pace. I thought it was maybe 2.5-3 miles, but i was pleasantly surprised.

My knee still aches a little but i'm not having the pain that i was having pre surgery.

We'll see how the next couple months go. I really, really want to run pdr in the fall, but i won't even plan on it until july or august.

Welcome back Dallison! Hope the knee feels good. I was thinking about doing the PDR also, but I've got so many other events, mostly cycling, already planned I don't think my wife would be to happy with another event added to the mix. We'll see...

ran another 4 yesterday. My knee was a little sore during the run, but it didn't make me stop so we're alright.

maybe i need to concentrate on recovering instead of trying to get to pdr this year. If i run without injuries then we'll see.

I am currently at 139-140 lbs. If i lose any more weight.......

I'm not a doctor, but that sounds like a good idea Dallison. It would really suck to push yourself to hard this year to soon only get hurt your knee again. The PDR will be there next year and the years after that.

yeah, i know. obviously paid athletes are able to do it b/c of excellent pt and they can dedicate much more time to it. I am taking the slow approach to recovery. I will do some 5k's and maybe a 10k in the fall, but nothing longer.

So 8 months after surgery i still have some aching in my left knee, but i am active and always moving. I think being 355 may have something to do with it. I ran 4 miles this morning at a nice slow even 8 min pace. my breathing is pretty normal at that pace. 2 steps inhale 2 steps exhale.

I am still about 139-144 depending how much i eat the day before. If i consume 5000 calories it takes me a little longer than the normal 3-3500.

I have about 150 miles on these asics and by the end... hopefully by the end of the summer i can get new ones..(running injury and pain free:wish)

Good to hear that you have made a pretty close to complete recovery and are able to run at a slow (to you!!) pace. Hope that the aches go away and you get back to your previous form
