max heart rate of 198bpm

Do you know if that heart rate is normal during the height of exercise? I don't consider myself unhealthy....i'm 22, 6' , and 163 lbs...I dont exercise too much, but I used to do a fair amount and my max herat rate was always around 200. Should I be worried?

Ouch, but not unhealthy.... I max out usually 120.... But a healthy, consistent exercise routine will definitely lower your heart rate later on.
Based on an age of 22 and using the formula 220 - Age
Maximum Heart Rate (Calculated) = 198

% of Maximum Heart Rate Reserve*
Percent 60 sec. 10 sec. 60 sec. 10 sec.
------- ------- ------- ------- -------
100 198.0 33.0 198.0 33.0
95 188.1 31.3 191.6 31.9
90 178.2 29.7 185.2 30.9
85 168.3 28.0 178.8 29.8
80 158.4 26.4 172.4 28.7
75 148.5 24.7 166.0 27.7
70 138.6 23.1 159.6 26.6
65 128.7 21.4 153.2 25.5
60 118.8 19.8 146.8 24.5
55 108.9 18.1 140.4 23.4

* Percent of maximum, corrected for resting heart rate of 70

well, what kind of exercise are you talking about? if you hit 200 lifting weights, yes I'd be concerned if you're talking cardio its not necessarily bad to be up that high for short periods of time. in my opinion you should be more concerned about your resting heart rate
