To chafe or not to chafe

Question for the runners here.

As some of you may know, i am heading off to basic training for the Army National Guard in two weeks. I've been running my ass off to prepare and usually do 2-3 miles a day 4-5 days a week. Anyway, i have serious chafing issues because I have huge quads and they rub together enough to heat a small city for the winter. Ive been using bodyglide and it seems to do the trick, no painful bleeding sores on my thighs like i used to get.

Anyway, i was thinking there is no way in hell ill be afforded such luxuries in basic so i better start toughing it out. I stopped using body glide last week and my legs are all jacked up now. I have painful blisters on my inner thighs now.

So my question is, will this callous up and go away eventually or am I doomed to have bloody blistered thighs all through basic. Or is there some other trick i can pull off, maybe deodorant? I dunno, i just have two weeks of freedom left and these blisters suck. Trying to to figure out something now while there's still time.

A cheap alternative to bodyglide is just good 'ole vasoline. A lot of runners use this in place of bodyglide. I would think that it would be readily available?

I don't know what you can and can't wear in basic, but the long-distance runners I know would wear tight spandex shorts under their regular shorts so there is no skin-on-skin contact. They would also put vasoline or bandaids on their nipples to prevent chafing there.

Andrew, you might end up with some blistering in basic. At least in the Navy's bootcamp, it was pretty strict about what you can/cannot do during those weeks. Your possessions are stored away and everything you'll have is from the Army, even the underwear. I'd get creative and use deodorant or something similar. If it becomes a problem, try to ask someone without calling too much attention to yourself.

A sidenote, i have muscular legs myself, i just try to widen my stance a little (doesnt always work) so I know where you're coming from.

I would talk with some officers/instructors to see if they would allow it. Explain your situation and you might find someone that won't be a fuck about it.

When my brother went through boot he got tired of shaving so often so he went against the grain to fuck his face up so he could get a shave restriction so he didn't have to for a couple weeks =).

If they allow that for your face I don't see what's different about your legs.

Ill try deodorant on my jog tonight and see if it helps. Probably going to sting against these open blisters but what can ya do Thanks for the suggestions fellas.

ahh deo on open sores, that can't be good. I have no real army experience but I would def. seek someone out and show them the problem.

My solution was wearing a pair of underarmor bike shorts. Though I guess if they restrict your clothing that won't work.

Don't know what I would try if I couldn't wear compression shorts or spandex.
