Benefits to going down stairs?

At work I rarely take the elevator, I'm all about the stairs, going up at least. Are there any benefits to going down stairs? My guess is it can be hard on your knees, if thats the case. Just tryin to get some calorie burning in wherever I can

You're moving instead of standing, so you're doing more (however it's pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things ).

I have bad knees and take the stairs everywhere.
