This a bad habit? After workout meals...
Ive been doing lots of summer training and conditioning to get ready for my sports seasons and just in general for school... monday, wed. and friday i do at least a 2 mile run, and tues and thurs we have planned conditioning with the soccer team - 4 miles, 2 hours of soccer, etc
i have read in mens fitness that muscles develop better, faster, etc when you nourish them right after - ie protein shake, water, etc
i drank tons of water but my question is this - is it bad to eat a cheese burger (usually wendy's jr. bacon cheese burger because i wanna keep it small) on the way home as "protein?"

from caloriecount.com, its almost 30% of daily value? is that enough to overcome the harm from the fat in it?

I've also read a lot about getting protein within 30 minutes after a workout. I can't comment on that, but I would say that a bacon cheeseburger wouldn't be the best source of protein if you're looking for something lean. Why not grab a protein shake? Better source of protein and no fat or cholesterol.

what is your fitness goal? if its not to enter a bodybuilding contest, you shouldn't have to worry about consuming fat too much.
me and my buddies used to scarf down big macs or ultimate cheeseburgers after a hard workout *occasionally*.
the sport you play and the nutrients required to aid in recovery will dictate what nutrients you take in. you said soccer. soccer is more about stressing aerobic pathways. i'd say a 50% carb/ 30% fat/ 20% protein diet would be better for you based on all that running and condition you do. at your age and your sport involvement, an occasional burger won't kill you, in fact, i'd encourage an *occasional* burger to help restore fat levels.
having said all that, your best bet is to have a protein shake with grape or apple juice or gatorade (the sugars in the juice will help absorb the protein quicker for quicker recovery) within 30 minutes of a workout and then eating a 50/30/20 meal about an hour after that.
oh, and i'd stay away from muscle milk - i don't know if they changed the formula recently, but it contains glycocyamine - google it and make yer' own decision about it. it also has canola oil and medium chain triglycerides; they are not bad in and of itself but the claims muscle milk says are ridiculous. don't believe it. it does taste awesome tho... haha.

I would avoid the burger's. Far better choices for a post-workout meal. Have a shake (protein) with some high-GI sugars to help absorb the protein. Eat a solid meal 1-2 hours after.

keep in mind, t-nation endorses using roids... so when a site like that warns you about using muscle-milk, you have to wonder.
as a side note, its my understanding that muscle-milk did indeed reformulate their shake and excluded glycocyamine.

even eat a banana for the potassium, or oranges.
i would also eat pretzels or animal crackers.
I would stay away from the greasy foods for at least an hour after a workout.
If it's deep fried or has grease dripping from it, stay away for that 1st hour.

Vitamin water serves no purpose to you. Go to wendy's and get a baked potato and a grilled chicken sandwich and a big bottle of water.
I usually have a protein shake and a handful of dried apricots right after the workout and then either grilled chicken on fish for dinner.

A good protein drink no later than 1/2 hour after the workout. Then splurge on a burger or fries. Just what I've read. Seems to be benficial to growing muscle. That way your body will be forced to use just the drink, instead of the fat from the fries and burger to refeul your muscles.

I'm going to attribute your ignorance to your age, and just the fact that you're not very knowledgeable about health and fitness. BUT, I am also going to say that it should be common sense that Wendy's is not beneficial at all to working out and building muscle. And gas station hot dogs?? C'mon man...
Now, if your goal is to gain muscle, your best bet (other than creatine) is to (as others have said) drink a protein shake immediately after your work out. If you really want to get into it, you can drink one 30-45 minutes before your work out - it is not necessary tho. Muscle Milk and CytoGainer are probably your best bet for gaining muscle and good weight.
You also need to know that just because you're taking protein shakes or whatever else you want to take, it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be putting on muscle. The #1 factor in putting on muscle is KNOWING HOW TO WORK OUT. The protein will definitely help, but you need to know how to properly work out to get the most gains.
Back to the Wendy's thing, i'm not saying don't eat it, i'm just saying that you definitely should not expect to put on muscle from it.

One on the right for me
It is from a restaurant, forgot to mention that - so I'm sure there is more butter and oil than if done at home. Much easier to pick something up though. The place just beats the chicken flat and tosses it on a grill.

I wouldn't eat at a fast food place after a work out unless I had too. A chicken sandwich would probably be better for you w/o cheese or dressing. Well maybe cheese but def no dressing or w/e.

1) Go to your local GNC or you can buy online (usually cheaper to buy online) and buy a big cannister of Whey protein. I recommend Optimum Nutrition brand or GNC's brand. Be sure its whey protein. Reason why protein shakes are a better choice than fast food is b/c it is high quality protein and contains other things that help your muscles recover. Be sure the protein contains BCAA - branched chain amino acids
2) Stop by Wal-mart or wherever store that sells small plastic container (approx 0.5L - 0.75L or so). Whatever closely resembles a water bottle or your vitamin water..
3) Before you go to the gym, either have yourself a shake (usually 1-2 scoops of protein powder). I sometimes put in a scoop of coffee grind just to get a jolt of energy prior to lifting Or have a light meal. Light meal can be yogurt and a bagel/half a bagel or a small bowl of cereal or just a measly fruit. If you do eat, keep it small and don't stuff yourself silly. I would wait about 30-45 min before working out if you eat. There are other things you can drink before you work out but im not going to talk about that.
4) Make another protein shake and put it in that container and BRING IT WITH YOU so you can drink it afterwards instead of eating at a fast food joint. I suggest mixing your shake with skim milk. You can add yogurt in it as well. You can also make a smoothie by mixing skim milk, low fat yogurt, protein powder, your choice of fruit, and a couple of ice cubes in a blender. Actually, your shake depends on your fitness goal.. I dont know if you want to gain weight, loose weight, or be lean?

however, meals need to be tailored to your lifestyle
in other words if you are an endurance athlete you obviously want more carbs, etc

on the muscle milk
Fast food hamburgers are not going to give you the protein and nutrition you want.
That's just my
Your body will be able to metabolize everything you eat right after a workout better than say if you ate a couple hours before, but nobody ever said that it meant you were getting high quality nutrition.
