Anyone workout at home?

Little by little I'm trying to eventually get away from a gym altogether. I have the drive to lift on my own and my gym has no hoes anyways. I've already been doing workouts at home with my current equipment and working out my wife. This is a little easier since I've been doing crossfit and don't necessarily need so many fancy machines. I'm also keeping it portable so that I can put away equipment in my rear storage. My wife works out too but she doesn't want the back year to look ugly. Here's an inventory of what I have and what I will get.

Jump rope
Swing Set - I do pull-ups off the main bar, not the swing. Plenty of support as the legs push off each other

I will soon get a bar and some plates off CL/ebay so that I can do presses, squats, cleans, deadlifts, etc
A kettlebell for swings. Probably a 10lb for my wife and 35lb (1 pood) for me. Not sure where these are cheap
Squat rack stands that are portable. A store on ebay has these for like $160 shipped if I can't find any used. I should be able to fit these in the storage.
The above squat racks can be used as a bench press as well so I need a bench. I think these can be had for as low as $25-50 used.
GHD bench for situps and back extensions. gotta research these

Yup, once i got my home i was too busy and/or tired to go to the gym after working 9 hours. I got a bench, powerblock set, and mat. Right now i do intervals 2 minutes of jumprope, then 1 set of weights, and repeat. Trying to stay cut and flexible for muay thai. I was thinking about getting a pull up or dip device but haven't got around to it.

BTW, my friend who's a certified trainer recommended crossfit. Didn't know you could do this at home. Will check into it more.

I have weights/bench in the basement, but I still go to the gym. I started out with my own weights and that's how I got into lifting.

Rick, you'll get ripped doing CF. Talk to your buddy and check out www.crossfit.com and www.crossfitbrandx.com. Brand X is more for newbs to CF like myself as they'll post the WOD (Workout of the Day) from crossfit.com and scale it down to mortal levels.

Havok, one again great info. Saved the pdf and will read it later today.

This counts since I don't go to a gym:

1. Stretch / do about 50 pushups while listening to itunes
2. Run my 3 or 4 mile route
3. Do about 10 pullups at the local park 3/4 thru my run
4. Do about 50 more pushups when I get home

Hey... works for me

Thanks mang! Will check it out. Right now i'm still recovering from circuit training tuesday night. We warmed up doing squat exercises and my thighs are still burning, even after 2 advil. Then I boxed 6 x 2 minute rounds with 30 second rests then worked on some drills with pads at the dojo. The burn feels great but it's a pain getting up when i'm lying down watching tv lolz.

Pushup pro - 100 pushups each night
100 sit ups each night

And I just take the stairs at work, and jog whenever I can.

So I'm definitely not jacked, but I have some muscles.

I have quite a bit of equipment downstairs (bench, lat/row station, crunch station, etc.), but I quit working out a couple of years ago. I'm about to start back up again, though. I've have on again/off again cycles since college. That's one of the benefits of having my own equipment, I can start and stop when I want. In the long run, it's cheaper, too. When I'm on an "on" cycle, motivation isn't a problem; in fact, I prefer at home because I don't have to wait on other people and it's very convenient.

Yeah if you can afford all the equipment it's less hassle in the long run.

Man Craigslisters sure are bastards. I've had 2 guys promising to hold equipment and sell them the day before I was going to go pick them up. One guy was a foreclosure investor with an olympic bar, 4x45, 2x35, 2x25, 2x10, 2x5 for $65. I was f'in pissed. I got a guy selling me a bar, 2x45, 2x35, and 2x10 for $100. Not the best deal but that was the next best offer since the first one was a special (as common as foreclosure is nowadays) case. My brother-in-law agreed to buy me a bench since supposedly he'll work out with me. I just need to get the squat racks and then stuff sand into my soccer ball to convert it to a medicine ball. I'm thinking of getting the pull-up bar door kit but I gotta really research that. The swing set is really low and with such fat grip it's hard to do pull-ups consistently.

Propper form, also some exercices will injure your shoulders. If that's your problem it won't be permanent. Are you bench presses bothering you?????

If so try this;

"Arch Your Back. Your butt, shoulder blades, and head should always be in contact with the bench, but it's okay to arch your lower back. If this isn't natural for you, you can place a foam roller under your lower pack for practice. Many people have asked what the point of this technique is. Again, it shortens the distance the bar needs to travels. "

You don't want to lift with your shoulders, they should stay pinned.....

Little update. I hate Craigslist but it's the only outlet for cheap weights. I need 10s and 25s bad because my workouts are suffering without them. There's one guy selling .35/lb but he's far as shit and I can only get there on weekends. It's worth the trip since my friend lives by him so no sweat on the gas.

On a good note, I found a great idea to have rings installed.

I use these harnesses: http://www.petco.com/product/2572/Ny...g-Dog-Toy.aspx

And I use these rings (seriously): http://www.petco.com/product/106752/...r-Dog-Toy.aspx

Someone posted at the crossfit web site of using those. Worst case if they break, there's another set that are more solid. They're only $12 at Petsmart so no biggie.

With the adjustable harnesses I can lower them to do proper dips. I don't have a bench yet so I've been putting my hands on an old plastic table that's 2 feet up and my feet on the ground. The ring dips are harder than normal dips but no pain no gain.

I can also do beginner pullups when I get tired doing regular pullups. Simply hang from the rings with your feet in front of you as if you were laying in mid-air. You won't have your full bodyweight under you. Last time I had a heavy pullup day and I had to do these, my biceps and lats were sore for a week.

Lastly, I will attempt to do a muscle up. However given the height required (my swing is probably no higher than 6'), I'll probably have to throw the rings over a strong branch or something.

Ok I picked them up last night. Luckily the tool place and pet store were in the same mall. Wow dips are hard. I have to raise up the rings a little as I had them too low. I took advantage of the height and did some pushups and beginner pullups. Holy cow. I wish the swing set I had was higher because doing a muscle up is going to be super difficult. The flex of the ring makes it a little tricky but I'm a CF noob and have never worked out with Elites or any other kind of ring.

Next up should be more weight and a bench. I think I will be satisfied with that for a while. I might get an abmat for the situps so that I don't slide around so much. Or I'll probably just do them on my bench perpendicularly. Instead of kettlebells, I'll probably use a plate. Oh yeah jogging shoes.

Ok great idea for a squat rack and dirt cheap.

These I've seen around $40 for a pair of adjustable ones. They adjust low enough to bench and high enough to squat. Unfortunately with the squat you'll start lower than a regular squat stand. However the advantage is that you'll have a larger target to land the bar should you falter. These are also rated to hold at least 1000 pounds. The cheapest set of squat stands I found that are portable and independent (not connected) are $130-150 shipped. Shit is ghetto but it folds up and sturdy.

Do you have a garage or room with visible wood beams? Do you have an outside patio that is covered? Or you can buy those pullup/dip towers off Craigslist. I think average price I've seen for them are $50. I'd prefer those for pullups rather than my swing set because the bars are grip friendly and it's not so low to the ground. You can then wrap the rings around the bar with the harnesses I used.

Oh yeah the harness, I was trying to figure that one out. FTW, a swing set is even cheaper than a dip leg raise chin up station

Good news. I just got a pair of 45s, 35s, 25s, 10s, and four 5's for $50. Plus they have rubber trim if I drop them. I'm pretty much good to go with 90% of the workouts.

Total Gym cost so far
45# Bar and 4x45, 4x35, 2x25, 2x10, 6x5 $150
Rings and harnesses $20
Jump rope $3
Software for timers on phone FREE
Total is $173. That was almost 5 mos gym dues.

I guess this is my blog but I got my blood pressure down from 130/80 to 100/70 in the last year. I also got my cholesterol down to 203. I can't remember what it was before but I know my doc told me to lower it. 203 is moderate but under 200 is low so I'm on my way.

Sorry I haven't posted up the pics. Too busy and I haven't been working out thanks to this cold and my kids were/are sick.

A quick update for those who want to do some squats at home. I picked up some sawhorses from Sears for $10 on sale. They hold up to 500lbs. I might not go super heavy but for those days where I need to do a lot of military and don't feel like cleaning the weight, this should help.
