Exhaust leak

a couple months ago started hearing a leak out of the driver side exhaust. You could only hear it when it was cold. Finally got it up on the lift last week and its coming from right before the flange on the driver side connecting to axle back. Any reason they even made that flange connection at the axle only on one side versus straight thru tubing like the passenger side?

This week that same leak has now become a whole and the whole axle back has separated from the rest of the piping. Anyone else had this issue? Car does have a nice rumble now haha but its pretty lame. Not sure why it was built this way

You're the first person I've heard with an issue like this and I've been on this TL board for about 3-4 years. Is it possible that the exhaust was damaged from some kind of impact?

I actually had the exact same problem a few months ago. Started as a minor exhaust leak, then the driver's side muffler completely broke off just after the flange.

Also liked the rumble, but the rattling of the pipes when I hit any sort of bump annoyed me enough to get it fixed ASAP lol.

Yup! that was exactly what happened. I had it welded at my buddys shop. I have since traded TL in for a 3G MDX now though.

My tl was a sh-awd

Thread resurrection, but this just happened to mine too. Driver's side, 2011 SH-AWD 6MT. Took a look while I was doing my rear diff fluid and it's broken clean off at the flange. Probably gonna have to get it welded.

Whoa how weird, I just had this same thing happen to me on my 13 AWD MT. The driver side flange broke off completely. I got it welded for 45 dollars and everything seems to be fine now.

Wonder why this is happening? Design defect or manufacturing defect?

Anyway, here's mine. I'd be ecstatic if I can get mine fixed for $45, did you take the exhaust off or did you bring the car in at that price?

^I can only guess, but the fact that it is completely sheared off likely means excessive movement in that area, stressing it and eventually cracking the pipe

I took it to a muffler shop and they welded it while it was still on the car. It's a simple weld job, it really shouldn't be more than 45 mins of labor.
