Cooling fan cycling on and off every 8 seconds

Bought a certified 2013 TL recently. When I'm stopped at a red light or idling in park with the A/C running, a fan (not sure if cooling but seems logical) keeps cycling on and off every 8 seconds. Is it supposed to do this? Temps outside are in the 70's so it's not like the A/C is having to really work hard. It's really annoying to be honest. Did not have this issue with my '03 TL.

Maybe it's the compressor and not a fan after doing some research but it's cycling every 8 seconds when stopped or parked.

I think that's normal as mine has always done that as well. It's pretty annoying.

I believe most if not all Hondas do it. It is especially annoying in the summer when waiting at the drive-trough.

I believe this is so that air flows through the condenser. If the fans didn't cycle like that when idle, the AC unit would start to blow warm air.......If it keeps the inside of my car cool in the summer heat, I'm all for it.

My 2007 RDX did this too, however my 2007 MDX did not. I always found it odd and annoying in the MDX. Drove me nuts.

I have a 2011 Tech package at 72k and i think the compressor might need to be replaced. i lose ac sometimes and most the time i can remedy it by hitting the ac button turning off the ac and turning it back on, essentially restarting the compressor . When is sit stopped at a light and try to do this remedy, the rpms actually dip to about 480-520 rpms for a second every 8 seconds. Anyone else have an idea?

Mine does is as well. It sucks since I have the manual and when the RPM's drop It gets very close to stalling. Very annoying.

Anything that can be reprogrammed or exchanged?

If you shut off the climate control system (or manually shut off the A/C compressor), the fan cycling every 10 seconds will stop.

Cycling fan

Unfortunately the anxiety producing cycling fan is normal when sitting idle with AC on. Love my hondas and acuras but the cyclic whir of the cooling fan turning on and ocf every few seconds nearly drives me insane. The engine temperature never changes so the only reason for the fan to operate is to pull air across the AC condenser coil if the engine isnt warm enough call for the fan. I understand the fan is needed for the AC to work efficiently but here is a novel idea Acura ...design the engine controls so that the fan just stays on while idling

This. I manually turn my AC off unless it's hot outside and I need it. I'm not sure how good it is for the relay and clutch to be initiating that often anyways. The humidity control doesn't work if you do that however, which is nice even when the temps aren't that high. Granted, I'm in Utah where we don't have very high humidity so that's a non-issue for me.

My 2007 TSX doesn't do this. The second fan stays constantly on when the a/c is running.
I think it has to do with the US-Designed Hondas vs. Japanese designed ones.

My 2007 RDX a/c fan does the cycling. It is annoying.

IF the system is low on refrigerant or the condenser is clogged/not working efficiently fan will stay on all the time. System is designed to use minimal engine power to keep MPG up.

Honda/Acura lose a bit refrigerant each year.. Like 1 oz ever 2 years or something, South Main Auto Youtube channel mentioned it when he does AC checks, also had to add to mine this year.

cycle AC on /off

Im sorry to all for responding to an old forum BUT cycling on/off every 15-30 seconds is NOT normal. for any honda/acura . it can not be normal. for the fact that there will be alot of wear and tear on all mechanical and electrical components relays clutches and fans.

dodges/hyunda's dont do that why should honda/acura do that ? for MPGs no i dont think so there is some thing seriously wrong if techs or consumers expect this to be normal operation even will driving its NOT normal.

You must understand the operation of the Air Conditioner before claiming that it is NOT correct operation. In Honda and Acura, primitive compressors are installed that have 2 positions, ON and OFF, when your climate sufficiently cools the car, and the temperature inside is equal to the one that you set on the climate controller, the compressor needs to keep the same temperature inside the car, so it can often turn on and off , this is absolutely NORMAL.
