Hi everyone! I am soon to be a new Acura owner! I am currently finishing off the final paperwork and picking up a 2010 SH-AWD 6MT this Friday!

But I have a few question's, I was interested in getting the extended warranty " Acura Care" but I found much competitve rates online then through the dealership itself. The dealership wouldn't match the rates so I passed. After saying no to them, the sales person told me this is the only time I am able to purchase the warranty and if I don't, I won't be able to extend it anymore..

Before all of this, he told me I still had the factory warranty until October 2014, so I am able to extend it anytime before then or <50k miles correct?

I believe the date of the coverage begins upon the purchase date, and if I would have purchased it, I would have wasted 1 year because of my remaining factory warranty?

Where do you guys purchase the warranty from generally? Anyone to recommend?

Also, i read that the extended warranty is added onto the time of purchase when bought new and not from the day you purchase Acura care? Can someone clarify this for me?

My sales person first told me that if I were to purchase a 5yr warranty, that I would only be adding on 1 year to my current warranty? Then he told me that he has a warranty available that starts today if I purchase it, adding another 5 years from today,, " 2018".

Welcome and congrats. On my 09 I extended the warranty shortly before it would've expired due to mileage. When I spoke with the rep I bought it from they explained to me that the extension is added from the date of purchase so if you purchase an extended warranty on a 2013 there will be plenty of overlap as far as years covered is concerned. That is partially why it's cheaper to buy the newer the car is; you're getting less. On my 12' I'm going to extend it again towards the end of the factory warranty, it costs marginally more. As for who to purchase it from google Bernardi Acura care and bob leap Hyannis Honda, they have the most competitive rates.

OP, don't buy a warranty.

only 22% of extended warranty owners actually save money. That means 78% of purchasers loose money. 42% NEVER use it.

I bought the Acura Care for my certified used '12 TL, it's the eight year or 100k bumper to bumper warranty. I was told the same thing, I had to buy the acura care right away, otherwise, I could buy warranty for the car when the factory warranty ended but It would be a lot more money, for the same coverage. I thought it was a good deal, so I went with it. I just bought the car a month ago. The warranty was $1895.00, hope this info helps.

In Canada is called Acura Plus and for 7 yrs and 130,000 km (~80k miles) I was quoted $1,768. Is there a way to purchase it online in Canada or from another dealer? I heard stories that the dealership has about 50% mark-up on these extended warranties. What would be a best price - any room for negotiation?

So, just to clarify, if I were to purchase a 5yr/50k mile warranty today on a 2010 vehicle, would it only add 1 year to my existing factory warranty or does it begin today and ends 5 years..(2018) or 50k more miles from now?

I believe is you add only 1 yr because Acura calculates the extended warranty from the date of first registration. My 7 yrs/130k km would add 3 yrs and 50k km, so you pay only for the extra, that's why I am asking if this is negotiable as it anything sold under the dealership roof.

I don't really believe Acura/Honda cars are worth extended warranties. I currently have a 2007 Civic SI with ~80k miles on it, over half of those miles it has been heavily boosted at over 400 hp, and I've never had a single problem with it. Hell, I'm still using the stock clutch! Honda just makes too reliable of a car. I personally doubt you'll run into $1,700 worth of problems before your warranty runs up, but that's just my opinion.
