Loose cover under the hood

Hello Everyone.
So, yesterday, I happened to open the hood and I noticed that the cover(?) for some exhaust?/intake? pipe underneath is loose. All the fasteners are gone and it was just resting crooked on top of the pipe. Not sure when or how this happened. Haha... ha...

So few things,
  • Does anyone know what type of fasteners I would have to get that would fit this?
  • It looks like the hole on top of cover, towards the front of the car, is supposed to be plugged... Is that something that's sold separately?
  • Also, is the cover suppose to "float" on top of that pipe? Or, am I missing a part inbetween?

Thanks!!

that cover covers the intake opening...its sorta like a water trap. if water happened to travel up the intake, it will spill out at that location.

the fastners you need are plastic clips. that just clip in those three holes..

grab some zip ties, and just zip tie it! done, finished, problem solved without spending lots of coin on little tiny clips

Thanks!

I thought about zip-ties but wasn't sure if I could use them for the 2 holes that attaches to the front side. I guess I'll give it a shot.

So, does that cover stop thinks from falling in there? Or, prevent water from splashing everywhere? Both?

I always saw it more of to keep things form falling in and to to direct air from the front (cold) into it rather than just sucking in whatever engine air is there.

I see. Yeah, that makes sense.
I just wanted to be sure there wasn't a piece between the cover and the pipe that I'm missing and it's suppose to "hover" over it.

this is from the TL, but I assume it's very similar with the TSX, especially since you have the same cover we do.

it looks like a water trap, to be honest. air and water go UP via blue arrows, only air goes down via ORANGE arrows

Whoa. Nice diagram. I think I have a better understanding now.
Although, I'm not sure how water is enters in that picture. It looks like just air flow to me?

yes, intended for airflow.
but look at the design, why would they have two disconnected pipes that flow together?
in your terms, they are floating pipeS! why? the assumption is that anything heavy will fall out and not continue into the 2nd pipe
