Ground clearance - bottoming out!

Hey guys!

Well, it finally happened, I bottomed out my 2007 CGP TSX. Not only did I bottom it out, but I really messed up the bottom of my bumper. The thing is, I was going super slow, but unfortunately where I work we have to park in a gravel parking lot. Anyway, this lot isn't kept up, so there are some rivets in the gravel.

So, while leaving work yesterday, I heard a loud "scrape" sound. I knew that it bottomed out, but I couldn't believe the scratches that it put in the bumper. The worst part is right below the fog light on the part of the bumper that hangs down lower than the middle section.

Anyway, I was just wondering how many people have had issues with this? I have a stock TSX, so I guess I was kind of surpised that it bottomed out. My car must sit lower than some of my co-workers, because they haven't had any issues so far.

Lastly, is it worth fixing this? Obviously, I wouldn't fix it until I left this job (which hopefully will be soon), but I guess I don't know if it's worth paying for a re-paint, plus a new clear bra. Does anyone know if a body-shop could just repair/repaint that half of the bumper? I'm not concerned about the scratches on the under side, but I have one that you can see while looking at the car from the side, and then the one part of the bumper has a gouge.

Thanks much!

You could just get a lip kit to cover it up. I've not had any bottoming out issues and I'm stock too. I plan on getting A-spec suspension though.

So your stock car bottomed out? That's insane, never had that happen since stock the car sits so high lol. I'm lowered and occasionally scrape as I'm sure the majority of ppl here do. All you can really do is try to be more careful, since it's gravel that is why it really messed it up. You can just have someone who does body work fix up the scrapes. Shop around and get some quotes. I wouldn't get a lip kit since that will make the car bottom out easier since it will lower it on the bumper.

Im lowered 1.75" with A-spec and i cant really remember the last time i bottomed out. I try to dodge pot holes like police and i basically crawl down driveways that are steep.

How bad does the bottom of your bumper look? Have you put any gouges into the bumper, or have you just instilled scratches into the bottom of it?

If you're bottoming out and aren't lowered I'd highly suggest contacting your maintenance department and complaining every day. Parking lots are still company property and they're responsible for maintaining them. They don't have to be perfect, but they do have to have some maintenance done.

When speed bumps are higher than your lip, even when you go sideways.

All the way across

and bags like to get caught on the cat leaving a annoying burned plastic smell for a few days whenever the cars hot. kind of ugly too

Wow, and I thought the underside of my bumper looked bad

Anyway, have you had any issues with the paint peeling and what not where it's scraped?

When I had my TeinSS setup I pulled up to parking spot, parked then got out. The chic that I was seeing, Kinda plump at the time, sat in the passenger seat and when I pulled out, the curb stopped ripped my front bumper off. I had to get out and push it back in place. It ended up riping my bumper under my passenger side fog light.
