First post, hopefully soon to be TSX-owner. Found what I think is the TSX for me, a 2006 Canadian Model (no Nav, but pretty much everything else as far as I can tell). 82,000 KMs (~50K miles) managed to get it down to $18,400 (CAD). Externally the car seems to be in good shape with the exception of a scratch on the back bumper, and the rims have a bit of curb rash. Internally everything seems fine, but that's based on a 15-minute test drive at night, so can't be 100% sure.

I'm going to have a mechanic look at the car, but wondering if you guys can provide some advice on specific areas I should be checking/asking him to check on before we go ahead and do the deal.

Any advice is appreciated.

Sounds decent. The 06 is THE year to get if you're going to mod it.

As far as what to look for, see if you can get service history on it. Make sure it was serviced regularly. At 50k miles, you shouldn't have any problems with it. Check for any signs of an accident. If your mechanic has one, have him go over it with a paint meter to see if any parts have ever been repainted. That's one way to tell if its been in an accident. Also check down in the spare tire well for wrinkling.

Is it a manual or auto? If its an auto, probably should have had at least one tranny service on it. Just a drain and fill. Beyond that, there's nothing common to the later years that I can think of. Other than the fog lights cracking and breaking that is. And brake rotors warping. But most of them seem to do that. I'd say biggest thing is get a service history.

own a 06 tsx-the only problems I had was the cracked foglights (fixed by the dealer free as a one-time goodwill) heating element in the drivers seat not working (fixed under warranty. Otherwise, it has been a excellent running car-still with the original brakes. Has 94,000+ miles.

The fogs were in good shape on this particular model.

All the regular maintenance has been done on it, according to the acura codes: A1, B1, etc. Does anyone know which of the codes involves a transmission fluid flush so I can tell if the transmission has been serviced?

At what mileage did your heating element in your seat go out? Is this a common issue with the TSX's?

Actually I rarely turn on the heat in the seats-When the dealer replaced the seat covering they said it needed to be changed and did it. My husband had a sharp object in his back pocket which he forgot about which caused deep scratches in the seats. The dealer was nice and replaced them as a one-time goodwill. I now make sure his pockets are empty of sharp objects.

The only two problems I've had with my 06 were:
- the back brakes needed to be replaced at 45,000 miles,
-I'm starting to get a slight squeak in the steering wheel early in the moring when turn it to the its limit. I don't hear the squeak during day.

I have about 53,000 on the car now and I plan on keeping it for another 5-6 years (pass on to my son in 4 years).

I would also recommend keeping up with all the scheduled maint. You can get another 100,000 miles from the TSX without any major issues.

Cool, thanks for the responses, everyone.

I've put a conditional deposit down on the car, the dealer is being nice enough to drive it to my mechanic during the week so I don't have to take time off work. They've also agreed to swap out the battery for a new one (existing one felt pretty weak when starting the car), and they've agreed to buff out a couple of surface scratches on the driver's door.

Yeah, that's what initially drew me to the TSX over its competitors. I plan on keeping this car for around at least another 5-6 years too -- my existing car (a manual tranny 1997 Honda Civic that I bought used back in 2003) has ~170K miles on it and is still running along strong. Gotta love those Honda engines.

Hi, I was nervous too when I bought my 06' TSX last year. It had 47,000 miles on it and looked to be in great shape it was a standard which is what i wanted and had Navigation another plus. I had it checked out at the local Honda dealer for about $50 US and said everthing looked good. I am very mechanical and do my own repairs so not too concerned. I checked Consumer Reports and 2006 TSX are very reliable in general and excellent for that year. Here is the only problem I had and it was kind of a PIA. I bought this car in the summer of 08' had the dealer check it out so when the rear defroster didn't work that fall I was pissed. I took it to the Acura dealer they said I damaged the rear heater wires , I never was even back there. Long story short I had to replace the entire rear winshield at a cost of $710.00. I went back and forth with the dealer and the Honda dealership etc. turns out the person that had the car before me had tinted the windows and removed the tinting before I bought the car there was about 1000 crackes in the heater grid but you can't see them unless you look real close. it doesn't take much to ruin the grid so I would maybe take a look at that it's probably fine but it got past me and the Honda dealer that checked it out.
