30,000 miles maintenance??
Hi Folks
Haven't posted awhile. Been busy (ie. getting married and all )... anyway, my 2006 recently hit the 30,000 mile marker. I haven't done anything but oil changes every 3-4 months or ~3000-4000 miles and tire rotations.
The electronic maintenance minder has never notified me to perform type A or B maintenence.
So I called up Acura the other day and asked what they do at 30,000 mile if any and the guy mentioned a whole bunch of things and said that the cost would be $400+... so, I was just wondering what was done to your vehicle at 30,000 mile from your local Acura (if you don't mind listing from your invoice and the price?)... from what the guy said, it just didn't sound like it was worth $400, esp when they're doing alot of eye inspections only.
Thanks!

according to owners manual it states " the transmission should be drained and refilled with new fluid when this service si shown on the message miner in the multi-information display (page 287 of the 06 manual). The message has not appeared on my car yet and it was 2 years old Nov. 17th.

still plays with cars
Drive until the mtce minder lights up - it will tell you what to service. If you don't want to do that, check the cabin and air filter and continue on your way. Brake flush every 3 years and tranny fluid at 60k miles.

To the OP, the MM won't light up with any codes unless you let it drop to 15% with the oil life. I just wish Honda would have put something in that you couldn't clear it until it hit 15%. I would just follow what your manual says for the 30k maintenance. Dealers tend to pad the cost to make more $$$. I'm sure it follows what my sister's Accord has and so far she's at 28k miles and I had nothing but oil changes and had to replace the cabin and engine air filters, and the rear brake pads.

Where did you go to service your car? The Acura dealer at the Cerritos Auto Square? Where do you recommend? I live in Cerritos, CA. Thanks.

I'm with jlukja. Haven't done any major service work and I'm going on 3 yrs. Regular oil changes and warranty work mainly but the cabin filter and rad flush is about the only extra thing I've done, other than rotating tires which I generally do myself.

your filter must be thoroughly disgusting.
I will change mine every year, or every 10k miles, whichever comes first.
it seriously took me less than 3 minutes to change mine out a couple days ago.

Yeah, I'm about a 10 minute ride from them. I've had them do my routine service since I got my integra back in 91'. I only had them do the oil and filter change, tire rotation, and the brake fluid change. Everything else is easy enough to do myself. The AT fluid and coolant change is just a drain and fill and the filters are simple as well. If you look in the FAQ there are DIY threads for each of these items.

Guys I have a question about your cabin filters. My car is at 20k miles and I just checked the filter. It still looks clean with subtle black-ness, which I assume dust and dirt. One thing though, I always drive with re-circulation on because I hate the street smell sometimes like driving behind a truck and crossing sewages. Would that be a factor in how clean or dirty the filter can be? Do you guys drive with the re-circulation off?

That is why your filter is fairly clean because you keep the re-circulation on. I always drive my re-circulation off so that I can get fresh air in. I manually press the re-circulation on when I am behind a vehicle that is blowing black exhaust smoke or drive near construction sites. I am pretty sure most people have it off since they have dirty cabin filters.

I don't think it will instantly kill you but over time it's not good for you. What's happening is your circulating bad air around you in the car in an endless cycle. I don't think it's good to breathe that kind of air for a long extended time unless you have the windows wide open. You need the outside air to circulate into the car.

Um, no. What visuelz was alluding to was the fact that if exhaust were to be leaking, it's possible that carbon monoxide could enter the cabin. Usually not a huge issue unless your driving around on recirc all the time. Then the CO builds up and you take a nappy nap.
Your exhaust would have to be leaking first though.

Holy crap. Truth is for 20k miles I've been driving with re-circulation on. You guys really opened my eyes about this though. Never knew this would be something like second hand smoking, but I am more aware now. Thanks guys.

Oliver!!!
I just use the auto setting most of the time and let it decide when the recirculator should be on and when it shouldn't. Living in Central Florida it keeps it on most of the time during the summer to help combat the heat, but once it gets close enough to the desired temp inside, it'll turn it off. And yes, I manually turn it on when I pass near the landfill or get behind somebody's poorly maintained, riced out Civic that's spewing enough unburnt fuel out the tail pipe to run my TSX. 17k and my filter isn't all that bad. A little dingy, but not bad enough for me to run to the dealer and get a new one yet.

Personally, I would be checking my tires for rips, damages, and pressure every week or so. I also keep all the fluids in check monthly. Although a leak is unlikely, it would really be a huge deal if you drove without knowing, so check that regularly. One thing I've had lots of damages with are my rims... they might get damaged due to the pot holes and chewed-up roads this time of year, but you'll feel that easily. Out of the lists people on this thread posted, this basically leaves the filters. Oh, I would have the brake pads checked and maybe serviced if you feel the need. At 30K, the pads should be alright (mine are 65% remaining at 28K miles).
I don't know as much as most of you guys on here, but I would assume that each car is individually different in the experiences it goes through on the road... just like identical twins who have very different life experiences. So your car might have certain damages that most other identical cars don't typically have at 30K miles. I would drive around on a very smooth road and try to feel vibrations. I would also listen for funny noises while you're accelerating, coasting, driving in each gear, during the shifts, while you're braking, etc (whatever else you can think of)... just to be safe.
Hopefully I added some insight for you.

sick to stomach
so i just got married and my wife has a 07 tsx. its got 35,000 miles and the only place shes ever taken it is jiffy lube to get the oil changed. i thought it would be a good idea to take it to the dealer and have em look at it.
long story short, i just paid $500 for an oil change and 30k maintenance. i feel like i just got raped... how bad was it?
oh and another thing... her engine doesnt heat up to the midway poit between hot and cold it sits at about 3/8 and never gets warmer.. is that normal?

do you guys use honda fluids (tranny fluid, coolant, brake fluid) for those major maintenance checks? where do you all typically buy your stuff? i'm trying to find a legit honda dealership online that'll sell the aforementioned fluids at a reasonable price.

engine heat: that's normal, mine is always at the 8 o'clock position.

Most of the things you can do yourself as other have stated. Basically its engine and trans oil/fluid, air intake/cabin filters, inspect brake pads and suspension componenets. However, I also tend to recommend doing a valve lash adjustment around this mileage as well.

Alright so I got 06 tsx in Aug '08 with around 20,000 on it, I just hit 50k yesterday and haven't had much servicing other than oil changes and brake pads. Brought it to acura and told me everything would be about 750. Cabin filter hasn't been replaced so I know that really should be done, as well as the fluids, but is it all really necessary?

I'll have to type the list up later, when you say ATF thats transmission flush? I'm 18 so I don't really have 700 to put into just servicing so whatever I can cut back the better.

I think you need a new dealership. Do you have any others you can go to?
