[Questions] Acura 2005 TSX SportShift

Hello, I recently got a used Acura TSX with just about 100k miles on it. It's a 4 speed

The other day I let a family mechanic use my car, he was testing the brakes and I noticed him switch into this Manual type of mode, he explained sport shifting and such but he couldn't explain much about my particular car.

so here I am curious about sport shift, so far I've learned a few things from reading other threads
1. You can't over rev
2. It auto down shifts for you
3. Saves you gas mileage if done right

Now I just wanted to get some confusion out the way
1. Will this hurt my transmission by wearing it down faster?
2. Should I use this in stop and go traffic
3. My cars already got 100k miles would it be better to just drive it in D mode?
4. What gear should I aim to stay at.
5. Is switching between 4, to 3 bad for tranny?
6. Is 3rpms the best to switch gears
7. Can I block shift? Like going from 1 to 3?

Thank you!

I don't use sport shift to save gas, that is what a Honda Fit is for. I use it to stay in gear for improved acceleration or downshift to slow down instead of hitting the brakes. I carry more speed into a curve with the TSX (progress RSB+Aspec suspension) and I need less power coming out when I sport shift to 2nd or 3rd gear compared to other cars with more HP and more weight. I live and drive between 5000-6500ft on average in high desert/mountain driving and had the TSX as high as +11,000 feet in Colorado I-70 Eisenhower pass. I usually keep it in "D" except during spirited mountain driving. I use sport mode to hold a gear longer (like 2nd or 3rd) to keep my rpms up for the driving up switchbacks because 4th/5th gears kills my speed. I do the same driving down the switchbacks to apply a little engine braking before the curves to keep from riding my brakes.

You can also use sport shift in icy conditions to start in 2nd gear if 1st gear is causing the traction control to engage at a stop.

1. Will this hurt my transmission by wearing it down faster? NO, not doing routine maint will hurt your 5AT
2. Should I use this in stop and go traffic, You can; but, it will get boring real fast and you will go back to "D"
3. My cars already got 100k miles would it be better to just drive it in D mode? I have +130,000 miles on my TSX stock engine and it still loves to rev. I would only hold back if there were some other maint issue that needed to addressed.
4. What gear should I aim to stay at. To save gas: the highest gear possible. To have some fun, the lowest gear possible to stay between 4000-7000 rpms. 2nd or 3rd gears are most likey where you will be for most driving conditions.
5. Is switching between 4, to 3 bad for tranny? Downshifting will only raise your rpms and and lower your mpgs if you are on the gas. You have to drive the TSX pretty hard to get crappy mpgs with tall gearing of the 5AT.
6. Is 3rpms the best to switch gears I just shift gears to match the driving conditions like shift close to red-line once I hit i-Vtec from 1st to 2nd for max acceleration or shift at a lower rpm to be in the right gear to apply power out a curve.
7. Can I block shift? Like going from 1 to 3? You can't skip a gear up or down in sport mode.

There really isn't any difference between "D" and "S" in 0-60 acceleration other than you have advance the gears yourself. "S" mode comes in handy if the driving conditions are better match if you need to stay in a certain gear longer instead of the 5AT shifting for you. If you really want to improve "S" driving, I would check into Hondata for the TSX because it will add 29hp/26ft-tq, lower the i-Vtec engagement from 6000 rpms to 5000 rpms, and up the rpm red-line to 7600 rpms in "S" mode (all for $300+shipping.).
