Tranny Fluid Drain and Fill

I have been doing drain and fill on my 98 3.2 ever since I acquired it (24K miles then) back in 2000. I have had several drain-fills. Last drain and fill was at 90K. I have been noticing a very slight hesitation on the shifting on the tranny.

This weekend @ 110K and I drained and filled it up again, 3 Qts. There was a good amount oif metal fines on the magnet (prior, it was a slight coating, this time it was oiled up thick). The fluid although not really dirty was not PINKISH anymore.

This is the 1st time I am using DW-1 (replacement for the ATZ).

Lesson learned, while checking the fluid for color and smell, it is really a good practice to replace the fluid every 15K to 20K miles. For the mere cost of 3 quarts of the Honda fluid, you are giving your tranny a better chance of fighting failure due to de-graded tranny fluid.

This morning, I do not know if it is just the figment fo my imagination, but the TL's shifting smoothly.

Drain and fill your tranny fluid every 15K! You will not be sorry.

Redline makes some really top-notch tranny fluid as well. Thats what I used to fill my TL with.

I have to chime in and say that my TL has had a barrage of different fluids since I have owned it, and it has 264k on the original trans. I doubt it had been changed more than once before i bought it at 130k, but has seen Honda stuff, cheap atf, and Redline since. Still going strong, although the 1-2 shift is a bit harsh.

I remember doing that at around 150k. You're right, it's probably time again! That and its due for an oil change, and a ball joint.
