04 RL Mods

There's a lot of info on the 1Gen RL's so I've narrowed down the mods I want/going to do on my 04 RL. Looking for opinions; where/what brands to buy etc

Navi- Ipod interface: want to play movies/music thru my stock nav
Exhaust- KA9 Remus
wheels- 2010-12 Accord 18x8? or TL Aspec 18x7.5? (need help deciding)

I mostly want to keep everything stock. I love the RL body and design, I just think it needs bigger wheels. I have a Lexus LS460L and they have the prestigious society and the vaistech products that allow iPod interface. I've looked at a few but don't know which one is best.

Added to the lis of mods is an HID kit (4300k) for the fogs. The last one I bought was crappy so I'd be looking for a good brand

DDM Tuning... been using these HIDs for my fogs for years and never had a problem. Not sure if you can watch movies on your Stock navigation considering the touch screen and it's also very grainy / pixilated. as for wheels... TL wheels are a good approach, it's what I've been using for years for daily driving wheels. Accord wheels and also MDX wheels too are a good choice.

@jmsmiff - From post #1, it appears you have 04 RL. If that is the case, you do not need HID kit, you just need the bulbs. 1999 and up have factory HID.

He's talking HID for the fogs not the headlights.

I ordered a 5000k hid kit from ddm. I decided to go with the 18x8 Honda Accord wheels (2009-2012 coupe). I want to keep my stock radio b/c of the XM so I'll be looking to just find an aux input for my ipod

You could go through the trouble of making an Aux port... or I guess a $10 cassette player with aux plug and call it a day and hide the wiring in the center console. Glad you didn't go with anything higher than 5K... nothing is more annoying, to me personally, that seeing people driving around with 6K+ bulbs to have blue headlights that don't light up the road at all. Lol can't wait to see the finished product.

I'm the same way about the hid's. I really wanted to go with a 4300k since I had it on my Legend and it looked great. 5000k is as high as I go on any kit. Anything higher than a 6000k just takes away from the car altogether.

So why didn't you go with the 4K / 4,300?

If you have a 99 and up RL you dont want to go higher than 4300k on the fogs, and my personal preferance for headlamps is 5000k.

The reason I say 4300k on the fog lamps is that they seem to make hids "bluer" then they really are. If you get 5k in the headlamps and 5k in the fogs the fogs will always look higher like 6k.

I didn't go 4300k again b/c I plan to tint my fog lens and the 4300k looked great but that was it! Here's the set I did on my Legend.

Yes, that's different from mine too. Mine is chrome (brushed aluminum) looking!

Anyone have a remote start on their 04 RL?

lol

Mine is customized a bit. The cd player slot you see is acutally an aftermarket half din dvd/cd player I use for videos

As for remote start you cant really do it unless you disable your stock security system.(wont start without the key in the ignition) Although...I believe there is a way for you to bypass the security key issue with some sort of module, but then that aspect of security is disabled.

So what exactly do I need as far as back u camera and module that connects the DVD and navi. I won't even try to duplicate you setup it's pretty complex! I just need to know what to buy.

Just look for navtool or any other brand. Basicly is a plug and play module with a switch for video and camera input.

Alot of major companies make them just find the one you want.

Navigation interface unit. Try ebay or amazon or even vendors here if they got a good deal going on.

dvd and camera are your choice nothing special about those.

Nice! Did you figure it out on your own or did you use my guide?

Did you do the switch too?

I used your DIY from .org. I didn't do the switch. I didn't realize there was a write up for it.

Yeah if you read on futher down the thread you'll see I described what wires to splice together to get the green indicator light on the fog light button to work correctly.

I'm gonna pull it out and do that mod as well. I'm ordering my Navtooll interface today I'm noticing in the instructions that it gets plugged into the navi brain box located in the trunk I'm going to order the backup camera but I'm wondering what kind of external video source I can use?
iPod or DVD player? Will it have to be mounted in the trunk as well?

You dont have to mount it in the trunk. As far as source whatever you want. You could run a cable up to the front and use your phone for video out if you wanted.

Maybe a discrete dvd player in the glove box maybe?

Ok, so it does plug directly into the navi screen. I was reading the instructions on their website it stated plug it into the nav box in the trunkMost likely I'll just run a backup camera and an iPod cable. Is there any specific one? I have an iPod classic and an iPhone 3GS.

Im sorry , you dont have to mount the video source in the trunk is what I meant to say. Should have been clearer than that.

The navtool does connect right into the nav unit in the trunk but that is plug and play.

Youll have to get a lead for reerse to the navetool for your backup camera to work when you put it in reverese and run 2 wires for the toggle switch so that you can swich between video source and oem nav.

Ok, so it looks like I'm on the right track. I'll most likely just add a backup camera and use my ipod as the other video source until I find a half din dvd player that doesn't cost a bundle

Have you thouguht about mount location?

In the 04 it might be easier to mount in the center console facing straight up, or in the glovebox is also an option. Both would require a little bit of work to fit correctly and look nice thoguh.

My bad, any idea if the video adapter works in 02 navi as well? I see it says 04, but it works in yours and 03 and 02 navi were similar...

I got it in a few days ago along with my backup camera! From what I'm understanding I can't use a DVD player, ipod or any audio sourcewith it unless I get a usaspec? Or a p.i.e.

That is correct. It is only the video interface

Show me what you got its supposed to be plug and play plus 4 cables or so.

As far as audio man if you got an 04 see if you can find the ipod interface that hooks up through the xm posrt but lets upi keep xm1 or xm2 for actual xm radio and the other for ipod.

I believe the 2004 TL version would work, but youd have to double check and probably purchase from a place that will accept returns if the plugs are different. Its been about 3-4 years since I reserched that but I was pretty sure that might have been an option for aux audio/ipod with the 04 RL.
