Towing more than 1500 lbs?

I'm looking into getting a trailer for hauling my motorcycle and I know that Acura recommends towing nothing more than 1500 pounds. I've found a collapsible trailer that would work out with the class I hitch but I figure with a few hundred dollars more, I can get an enclosed trailer that can store my gear, tools, and bike when taking it to the track. However, these enclosed trailers do weigh more. About 2000~2500 pounds.

I've noticed on etrailer.com that they sell class II and class III hitches. Is that to say that the RDX can handle the extra weight and perhaps. Any experiences with anyone towing with an enclosed trailer of that weight and/or used a class II/III hitch on the RDX?

Very limited info from me, but a friend of a fried tried towing a small trailer, I'm guessing somewhere in the 2500-3000 pound range and his transmission was gone in a couple weeks.

Anecdotal, but I'd lean to being cautious for sure.

As long as the trailer is brake assisted technically you'll be fine up through 2500lbs w/o any passengers.

I don't get why Acura builds a good motor but a weak transmission. The collapsible trailer I was looking at is about 180 lbs. Plus the weight of my bike (about 440 lbs), it would still be below the 1500 lbs and is made by Stinger Trailers. The enclosed trailer would be nice so I can stow away all my stuff and that's made by Pace American. The Pace trailer comes with electric brakes.

Then there you go, electric brakes = able to tow more.

I think the tow rating is based more on the transmission load/heat than braking. Just a hunch. Also, I'd stick to fourth gear tops.
