RDX Pics from NAIAS

I just got back from NAIAS and snapped some shots of the RDX while I was there. This thing is going to be hot when it's available.

High res shots are available if anyone needs them. Just send me a PM...

Too bad it won't look like that when it comes off the production line.

I'm sure that there will be many design elements taken from this concept but you're right, it's going to change a lot. It needs mirrors and wipers for one thing.

How many times is Honda/Acura going to tote out these wiperless concepts then not put into production? Of course after just one experience after a snowfall - one can appreciate the trouble engineers might have making a wiperless system work for everyday use.

Thank you so very much for the great pics! In real life, in person, does it look more like a tall wagon or a small SUV? Whatever it is, it looks HOT!

Looks really good.
but the rear cargo area doesn't look very large. judging from the distance of the back door to the rear of the vehicle. the first pic anyway. might just be the perspective

It looks like a mini-MDX to me.

Nice pics Dan !!!

I'll reserve my RDX comments for the prodution or near production version. I think it will change considerably for production. Its far too low as it is.

I hope the production model retains the headlight shapes. They look good. Add some xenons, bi-level, auto leveling, and adaptive.

Land Lover Freelander, BMW X3, Mercury Mariner now Acura RDX. At least they're jumping onto the bandwagon earlier than they did with the MDX.

I don't think those headlights are possible. They'll likely switch to a more standard projector style for production.

I have a feeling the headlights and taillights will end up looking more like the current Acura line (more like the TL or TSX).

I don't think the headlights stand a chance of making it but the shape of the rear lights works for me. I also like the bumpers, they almost look like true functional bumpers. I wonder if HMC has gotten sick of hearing about low speed collision costs from the Insurance Institute and put real bumpers on this one?

yeah...not enough room currently to house projector type

I wonder if they'll use LED taillights in the production version

Well I bet a lot of it has to do with DOT approval of these technologies.

As for Acura concepts, when the TL concept came out, the productions looks damn near similar. The heads and tails changed, but the shape didn't. The door handles changed, the wheels and brakes, but overall, the shape remained concept. I think the RDX will follow the same suit.

Mirrors are replaced by cameras, wipers by a jet of air.

Cameras aren't DOT legal and there weren't any screens inside the car to see what the cameras are recording.

I can't see how air jets will be able to blow off slush or mud so they'll be replaced with wipers for sure.

That would be a shame cause these headlights, their shape, are pretty distinctive...and you don't see that word used in the same sentence with Acura too often.

I hope they can keep the shape of the headlights and the tail lights. They are very interesting and different. Overally I agree that the SUV looks great.

What do you mean? The RDX will slot in under the MDX. If anything, the MDX will go a little more upscale.

it looks like an X3 rip off, and the front end looks like it just smoked a joint and is falling asleep. but it should be a great performer...

hmm...I don't see much similarities between the RDX and the X3. To me, the X3 has always looked like a tall frumpy wagon. The RDX looks tight and smooth. I really like the styling on this one.

I agree the RDX looks more like a small Toureug. The X3 suffers from too many unnecessary Bangle 'flame design' hard edges. Also I wouldn't be surprised if BMW paints the bumpers on the X3 with the RDX coming out next year. On the outside the RDX is clearly better looking. As for the interior no one knows.

The MDX is moving up market with a 300+ hp 3.8l V6 and will have slightly larger dimensions. It might also share the V8 which is under developement for a sedan above the RL.

That 3.8L V6 rumor has been flying around for some time now. I hope it's true, but then you have to wonder why isn't it shared with the RL...

My wife just got a new job, with a bit of a commute, so we were thinking MDX ... but thsi RDX ... WOW

I wish it was goign to be here sooner. Honestly the only thing I don't like about the MDX is the lack of xenons. What were they thinking!

Everyone has xenons now .. .even the Murano!

It looks pretty small and low, so can you tell us a bit more on the sizing since yuo were actually there standing next to it?

This might be too small for my needs, I was hoping for something that would be great next to my TSX but meeting some family needs. Guess will have to reserve judgement when it actually comes out.

Just curious.

"performance specs"? We don't even know how many cylinders the thing is going to have yet!
