Will have to sell if can't soften clutch - 98 2.3cl

Any advice is appreciated here guys... 98 2.3 cl 5-speed, 250k miles and original clutch.

New job and route to get to it involves heavy traffic morning/night. Left knee has been throbbing after 1 year of the drive. Can't get a clear answer as to what a new clutch would do to soften the pedal. It's hard to compare to years back because all mileage was highway. Never any service to the clutch/oil/components FYI.

Will a new clutch and all related components result in a noticeably softer pedal?

Really appreciate the advice. Had a guy come tonight to make an offer on the car but I backed out--- really don't want to sell but will have to if I can't get the pedal softer.

Honestly i adjusted my clutch pedal today. Had issues with it having too much play, noticed that the master cylinder was leaking so i replaced that along with the slave. Didnt really fix any slack and it is just as hard. The 2 cylinders working together push an arm that goes into the transmission. The hydraulics cant really be changed or made softer. The force of compression is what it is to move the slave cylinder open and closed. Theres not really much you can do my friend... Sorry...go to the gym? lol

Thanks guys. Was hoping the consensus would be 'yes, spend $1k-ish on a new factory clutch/etc. equipment and you'll have a noticeably lighter clutch'. Really hate to get rid of the car-- have a buyer lined up at $2500 but I still have real reservations this thing is/has been a dream for a long time... Thanks for the input.

As an update, there was a leak in one of the cylinders that's part of the hydraulic system (as I was told there's a slave and a master-- the one with the issue was the one not in the transmission, thus it was an inexpensive fix).

Lightened up the clutch somewhat, but mainly I now notice the pedal doesn't have to be pressed to the floor in order to disengage for a shift.

Per the mechanic the clutch is still strong. I've always double clutched so it has paid off.

I know there are "short shifters" that relate to the stick. But is there a comparable upgrade for the pedal. Even though its movement is now slightly shortened it's still way long.

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks
