Transmission whine

I bought a 97 CL about a week ago. It's a 2.2L manual (my first). I noticed tonight when I started driving it, it has a distinct whine when I am in the gears. It rev matches with me. It isn't there when I push the clutch in or brake, just when I give it gas. It really almost sounds like a turbo, but it doesn't have one. I haven't noticed it until today. I pulled my radio to put one from my old car in but I still have the cavity open. It was fine last night and all day today up until tonight. My car usually whistles when I have the AC on so I thought the noise evolved. I shut the AC off and it still made the noise. It doesn't shift rough or anything. Nothing seems out of place about the car aside from the whine.

I appreciate your help.

Are you sure that it's coming from the transmission? Could be a belt or the ABS modulator

I figured it was from the tranny because it matched the revs. What is the belt and the issues it causes?
