My car whines
At about 121K my car started to whine. The dealer said it could either be ther tensioner or the alternator. I'd love some REAL advise.
I did get my timing belt changed at 111K but they did not replace the tensioner. PLEASE HELP!!!!

this may sound crazy but try moving around your pcv valve i just replaced mine and it buzzes, like a whine. start your car and just move it back and fourth. the valve and the hose going to it should be vibrating if it is the problem, if not. post again. or pm

IT whines all the time. If I put it in neutral it lessens but it is still present. It gets so loud that I hear it over the stereo sometimes when I am driving around town.

Could be a differential. If it doesn't appear harmful at all that could be what it is. It's not damaging the differential in anyway, its just a little bit out of whack, and they scream like a MOTHER! The differential would still be good for basically ever, but that sound is unbelievable over time.

I'd say its the alternator. You can probably get a better idea by starting your car, opening your hood, and putting your ear to the alternator. If the bearing inside is going bad, you'll also be able to smell it burning.
