2016 and 2017 Acura TLX GT Package
TLX GT Package Launches to Consumers on Acura.com
On Friday, September 30, the TLX GT Package is being added to Acura.com. With prominent placement on both the homepage carousel and the TLX model landing page (Acura TLX Packages & Accessories), the website gives potential TLX customers an introduction to the sportier, edgier look offered by the addition of the GT Package accessories.
Video that shows the GT Package installed on a 2017 TLX and the details outlined in the Parts Information Bulletin, B16-0022.

Tape-on cosmetics to go with the new traffic light Grand Prix commercials? How about a real GT package with wheels, tires, suspension, turbo & seats?.

I'm confused... The TLX already has an available kit. How will another body kit cause more sales? It's still a $1200 upgrade which most people will pass on anyway (if the past for OEM kits is any indication).
Im sure many AZers would love the kit- but I'm also willing to bet many passed up on it when they bought their car. I wouldn't be surprised if only 10% (or less) of buyers opt for a kit, any kit.
It is nice to see Acura do something for the TLX at the moment... But I doubt they are expecting to move more cars out the door because of the kit.

^isnt it exactly the same as the 2015 aero kit? I guess they thought changing the name for the 2016 and 2017 models would sell more. Lol. A spec package in canada, gt package in the usa. Really, acura? Pathetic.

Should've done more than just add the aero kit and changed the wheels to truly call it GT inspired.
Heck, when I bought my TLX the sales manager didn't even mention if I wanted to add the aero kit

They will do something. I'm sure of it. The question is how much will they do? I'm sure in 5-8 months from now, we will know.

I really really hope so since my current 2015 TLX AWD Advance/Elite might very well be my last Acura. I remember the time when people used to say go Honda and have no problems. Well I can gladly say ZF and their 9-speed transmission spectacularly broke the tradition. I can't say my previous 12 TL was perfect since I got a recall about a torque converter software update. But what really annoys me is Honda's attitude that nothing is really wrong, it's the costumer (can shake hands with Apple ...). With all the problems people are having with getting service with the ZF (in Montreal, no TSBs to use here), I didn't even bother to bring it in. No point in wasting work time, plus my dealer never responded to my email asking about software update 6+ months ago.
Before I got my TLX, my father really wanted my 12 TL front drive. I had the transmission checked last year since I feared it may have the problem. After spending 100$ on getting it checked, they say it worked perfectly. And this month I get a letter saying it may have a problem, and if reprogramming doesn't work, they may switch it. Not really the A+ customer experience they promote...
If in 15 months no Type S is offered or that POS 9 speed ZF is still in it, I'm jumping ship (so happy I leased for 30 months at 0%). I honestly think Audi will get my money with their fantastic 2017+ A4/S4 (not too sure yet lol). Leasing it as well. For those saying even more problems, that may be true. But at least there's fun to be had in the 4 years of ownership. Not constant "you're using it wrong" / "working normally" comments and "crafted performance" lies,,,,
</ rant> feel better now, been keeping it in for too long!

i mean acura seriously, if youre gonna come out with a slap on "GT" package at least come out with something new. the package does look sharp but why not have it come out of factory like this molded to the bumpers so it doesnt have the slap on look? Acura marketing is so weak sigh.

True my transmission issue is not linked, but the performance part for sure is. Slapping on aftermarket shit does not turn a sedan into a GT performance car wannabe. Cosmetics can only do so much, and I for one will look elsewhere if a Type S (whatever it'll be called) is not part of Acura's future. When I got my TLX, I didn't even think about the add-on package since it so cheaply and terribly put together that it is money wasted to my eyes. If they at least changed the brake calibers to have color, that'd be one thing to "show" performance. Mine are rusting after only one year!!!
As for the ZF transmission being a performance part, no chance in hell. So slow to react, it's even a bit scary in panic situations.

A couple of points regarding this latest "post gone wild with diatribe". Acura is simply re-packaging the kit, which does look good, with those very nice rims to offer a better price. That's it, that's all. Perhaps calling it a GT package is debatable, but who cares. The video was intended for Acura dealership staff....did you want them to put the Slap Chop guy into the video?. Now that they have got the transmissions tuned right from 16 on, it seems there is a need to bash Acura over things that are way out of proportion with reality. If anyone buys a TLX to be a performance car in the true racing sense, well.....it strikes me as misguided. If you want a car that handles very well, is nicely equipped for the price, has above average get up and go, is quiet as a church, looks good, reliability where it truly counts, etc, (95% of Acura customers) then perhaps that's where the focus should be for any complaints or faint praise. Otherwise, it's like criticizing Donald Trump for not being more sensitive and caring.....a waste of time. The only difference in my analogy is that one is a overhyped poor performer, and one is a ...car.

I might be in the minority (or not?) on this, but I like how the lip is a separate piece from the bumper. It also adds that little bit of differentiation from other TLXs and if you were to happen to destroy a lip from parking, or whatever, it's easier to replace as opposed to having to fix an entire bumper.

I can't help but laugh at that commercial where the driver is racing on street in the white TLX. I mean the car is not that sporty, and nowhere near a "sport" sedan.

Personally, I feel that if the lip kit was molded into the bumpers (and not a separate piece), it would look a bit too ricey. Some people choose to have that extra look... but if everyone has it, people start to turn away. I dunno... it's hard to explain. I remember when the last gen Celica came out, being a rice-loving 16 year old at the time, I was like "man, I wish EVERY car had lines like this thing!" but soon you start seeing Celicas everywhere and it just looks like it is too much overall.

Former Audio Mod
Hey everyone! It's been awhile since I lurked around here now that I bailed on the idea of a powerful TLX and went with a used '14 S6 in late '15. So, I know that the cars are totally different audiences, but I loved my Milano Red '04 TSX, and the ad I saw brought me back. It's pretty strange on the site that there isn't "GT Package" under packages in the configurator. I don't think this color is the same as that on the '04, as it looks darker (bummer). Frankly, if they used superchargers or turbochargers and an adjustable suspension, I could see going to this car.

that has nothing to do with the transmission apparently. SBAC0022S - Sprint Booster - Excelerate's Honda & Acura Store - Japanese Performance Specialist so far the people who have installed this into their TLX's have had great success. give it a shot.

This is just the same existing "body kit" with a "GT" name. Oh, those marketers.

That commercial is an embarrassment to Traffic Light Grand Prix Drivers everywhere. A tape on body kit guarantied to drive your 0-60 time down to 4.0 & 1/4 mile to 12.8 @115mph.

Those "old man" wheels don't fit the whole body kit look IMO.
