Might trade in my TLX for an Audi A6
I currently own a 2015 Acura TLX V6. The car is perfect in my opinion but the transmission is just crap. I would feel a jerk between 2nd-3rd gear, lunges forward when coming to a stop, just overall annoying and crappy. So I got a software update done to it, had to drive 500 miles for it to relearn or something, that didn't work out. Acura approved me for a new transmission which took 3 weeks till I got my car back. It felt smoother, I don't feel a jerk between 2nd-3rd anymore but a slight jerk 1st-2nd. I would press on the gas and it would take a second to go. Its just overall annoying and aggravates me a ton. Next step is putting 91 octane and see where I go with that. Hopefully it improves the driving experience. The Audi I'm thinking about getting is a 2012 Audi A6 3.0T Quattro Prestige Sedan AWD. Its going for $23,000 at a dealer. Its supercharged, 310 horses, its just astonishing. Stay tuned!

Good luck with your octane experiment however, sadly, I think it's the transmission programming that's the issue there.

Pictures or it didn't happen. Also, you might want to announce it on the general Car Talk board to avoid some hostility.

6 yr old audi? Good luck with the maintenance cost
Hope you get some type of extended warranty.
When I tell them they need to look past 3-year study for reliability, they think I am some kind of stupid. It's weird right???

May want to join an Audizine forum to get some info on the A6.
If you can, might want to avoid the first couple of years the new gens come out to so they can fix the kinks.

A six year old A6, hmmm not sure it's a good idea. If you only care to play and dump it in a few years, maybe. To keep it until falling apart, would look elsewhere.

I'd be skeptical buying any 6 year old car to be honest. A lot has changed in terms of reliability and tech in the past 3-5 years. I do understand why you want to dump the Acura though. I had one as a loaner and those downshifts while coming to a stop where downright dangerous. I would be dumping it also...just not sure for a 6 year old Audi

I owned a 2012 Audi A6 Premium Plus 3.0T Quattro for 5 years and put close to 60,000 miles. It was probably one of the best cars I have ever owned. It never gave my any problems and all I had to do was routine oil changes, one air filter change at 55K miles, 1 set of new tires and 1 set of new brakes. I would probably still have the car if it wasn't for some numb nut T-boning my car. I wouldn't be worried about reliability at all with the new Audi's. Even my mechanic mentioned that the new generation Audi engines were bullet proof and that rarely anything really goes wrong on them.

As an example
FYI, Cost of replacing the ZF 8HP fluid and the 3 differentials oil

So, I inquired at my dealer as to what the cost would to change the transmission fluid/filter and 3 differentials oil. Did not get a very concise answer but did get their cost for the fluid which was $51 a liter. In any case I decided to purchase the filter and fluids thru ECS tuning. I purchased the ZF's Lifeguard8 fluid(9 liters), Motul gear 300 75w90 oil(3 liters), filter and transmission fill plug. Total cost was $682. Shipping was free.
I found local independent garage to the work saving $30/hour in labor. The actual labor time was just under 6 hours for $585. So the total cost was $1277 to have this work done, not cheap.
I will be sending a sample of the transmission fluid out for analysis to determine it's condition.

IIRC....when I had my S4, which is the same engine that’s in the A6 3.0T the brake fluid had to be changed (and assume brake line flushed)...around $700 and the supercharger belt had to be changed at 50K miles, too...I remember it was going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $700.
Audis are not cheap to maintain.

You will always pay to have someone else do it. ZF recommends a 60-90K mile change for a ZF8 that AUDI & Dodge says lifetime, BMW says 100K . Would take me 10 years to put 90K on the car so for me its a lifetime fluid. $1000 over 10 years is not something I think an AUDI buyer should be concerned with. If its a big deal put a $100 bill in an envelope every January 1st.
You buy an expensive car & can just make the payments, agree maintenance is expensive. If its an issue you should not buy one. The knock on Acura is that it is a tarted up Accord. The good side of that is its full of Honda parts & a lot of stuff can be done at a Honda dealer for less money.
All that said even without a lift I would be hard pressed to spend 3 hours doing a trans & differential fluid change including a new trans filter & pan gasket. Rough guess under $250 in material.

Yea my buddy with a 2011 Q5 is decently reliable. But it's interesting to see that he has a loaner car so often. It seems like whenever he goes in for a routine maintenance, it's not something that can be done within a day. Often time the dealer would keep the car for a few days (hence the loaner car) and the maintenance costs truly scare me lol...luckily it's not my car!

Considering how many "problem" threads the OP has already created on this site in his short period of ownership, it's very possible that he'll bring down the audizine servers if he ends up buying a 6 year old Audi.

Hope he picked well-off parents. That said I first got involved with cars in the 7th or 8th grade as a gofer when the older kids were working on their cars. Was good deal all round, gave me a life long hobby, kept me out of the infantry & saved me many thousands of dollars over my lifetime.

I don’t even want to know the answer my parents would have given me if I had asked them for a car. Probably confusion at first, folloowed by uncontrollable laughter, later.
