Going from 2007 TL Type S to 2015 TLX

Guys;

I'm strongly considering upgrading my 07 TLS to a 15 TLX in the next 6 months.

I was able to do a very preliminary comparison of specs from what little info there is available.

Here are some specs on the 07 TL Type S:
  • Length: 189.9"
  • Wheelbase: 107.9"
  • Height: 56.7 "
  • W: 3515 lbs
  • HP: 286
  • TQ: 256

Here are some specs on the new 15 TLX:
  • Length: 190.2"
  • Wheelbase: 109.3"
  • Height: 56.7" (based on 1/2" lower than current TL)
  • Weight: around 3500lbs (based on 200lbs less than current TL FWD)
  • HP: 290
  • TQ: 267
Assuming what I listed above is accurate, then I think it's safe to assume the new TLX will be a tad quicker than the 07 TL S. Direct Inject + better tranny and a chassis that is comparable in size to the 3G TL should make that a reality.

I do wonder if the suspension will be tuned for sport like the TLS or for luxury like the standard TL has been though? Will Sport+ change the suspension at all?

A few things I am hoping for with the TLX would be:
  • shorter turn radius
  • less noisy cabin
  • less torque steer (sucks its still FWD)
  • better fuel economy

Seem reasonable?

I have an 07 Type S and honestly see no reason to rush to upgrade right now. Honestly, I'd wait a year or 2 and see if they debut a Type S or some type of sport version. If not, I'll probably be looking at another brand.

hey sillies; the TLX hasnt even come out yet.
why are you even considering it? as its not even tangible

the current speculation right now is that the i4 version will have a sportier suspension set up, as it has the sportier transmission.
the six cylinder model will be the "lux cruiser" with softer suspension and 9 gears in its automatic tranny.

so, your comparison between the 3rd gen TL and the TLX is all speculation and probably not true.

Ugg that's not good. I think I will keep rolling in my TLS for now as you guys suggested.

i wish the TLX actually looked awesome and inspiring and created emotion while having a beast of a powertrain.
six cylinder turbo mated to a DCT or a six speed MT would be my dream TLX.

The TLX is a very typical unsuprising modern Acura design. Seems like it will fall short of its competition in nearly every way.

Seems like Acura and Infiniti are in competition to produce the next generation of boredom.

I don't want a plush sedan. Not after test driving an M235i and Porsche Cayman.

Based on Acura's videos, it's reasonable to assume that cabin noise and fuel economy are better. The turning radius might be better if the PAWS system works better than the increase in wheelbase impacts radius (about 4" difference based on wheelbase delta of almost 2"). Torque steer is a pure speculation. More HP and torque would increase tendency unless there is better compensation in the drivetrain- torque steer is the most speculative item since we won't know until we drive it. I don't remember hearing anything about resolving the TS issues in any of the videos.

I still think the 07 is a better looking car than the TLX but the TLX has updated toys.

im considering the same thing as i have grown old of the rattles and lack of sturdiness. 07 kbp tls here. i know 3g looks better, i keep mine in pretty clean condition. i love the interior of the TLX minus the lack of shift knob but... i do love the dual screen. im trying to like the exterior but its hard to.
going to look at 2014 audi s4 tomorrow...

oh.. and i hate the fact there is a possibility they might make a TLX type s 2 years later rather than now. so TLX may be out of the question for me just on that.

Agreed. I'm only interested in the TLX with a sports tuned suspension and preferably with the Type S badge.

Be careful with Audi. Every Audi I ever see on the road has an LED front headlight burned out. A family member of mine is an Audi mechanic and he doesn't speak highly about their reliability. Probably best to lease an Audi and then wait 3 years to buy an Acura TLX type S if they ever come out.
