Adding Remote Start to TLX Base

Hey Guys,

Anyone considered adding remote start to their TLX base? I can get the Acura remote start kit for $280 and would like avoid paying the dealer $150 to install it. Any DIY guys out there have tips for this process?

Thanks,

Neil

As far as I know the fob programming requires some data link connector that must be done by the dealer.

With Ford you could program a new fob by yourself as long as you had two at hand. This was a safety measure so valets could not copy car keys with just one fob. Acura instead requires the car to be connected to the HDS in order to start the programming sequence. Pay the extra $150 if you really need that remote start.

baelim,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize that the fob programing had to be done at the dealer. I don't really NEED the remote start, but it sure would be nice to have on these cold northeast mornings.

I have a 4 cylinder base and got the remote start with it. I got it as part of the $500 free accessories when I bought the car, so I got free installation! I really like the remote start...especially on hot days when the AC turns on (I live in South Florida).

Did they give you an extra set of fobs to keep or did they take away your original fobs away? I would think that the install allows you to have two extra fobs for a total of 4.

I too am tempted to get the install done but I live in a condo with underground parking so it's not as important to me. For the price however I am tempted for the extra set of keys in case I lose the original fobs.

I received an extra set. so I have 4 total. The remote start ones are a bit bigger than the standard ones.
