Partial responsible is Acura too for sucking at communications as of lately. If they handled it properly and followed their own procedures this wouldn't have happened, I mean press releases that trigger massive media panic.

They did handle it properly as far as I can tell. Acura notified the HTSHA about the problem, before any news came out. Acura initiated the Stop-sale

What procedures did they not follow?

Tlx GEAR SELECTOR SUCKS

As an Acura fan, and owner of a MDX that i purchased almost brand new in 2009, I must say the TLX is a HUGE dissapointment.

But the bigges dissapointment OF ALL- and mind you that I noticed this up close while SHOPPING FOR A USED TL SHAWD because I wont bother with a TLX- is the GEAR selector! What a ugly, weird, dumb concept.

Can you tell how much I LOATHE the design?

Seriously, I dont know how some of you peoiple were able to overlook this, and drop $40K on this car. HORRIBLE.

If I were in the TLX design project team I would of laughed my ass off seeing a push button design like that.

I betcha they will go back to a nice gear lever for next year model, everyone that has this first year model will be stuck with something NO ONE will really want.

Have fun with that. I wouldnt of bought a TLX on that gear selector alone. And im someone who WAITED for the TLX to come out before spending $30-$40K on a car. Probably will end up with a SHAWD TL or a F30 335xdrive.

What does this have to do with the V6 stop-sale transmission issue?

Different strokes for different folks.

I love the gear selector, and wish my MDX had it as well; especially when I need to reach for my work bag in the passenger side footwell. I no longer have to worry about the strap getting caught on the shifter, or brake, and appreciate the extra space which makes things roomier. Access to my phones, etc are all wide open now as well.

They aren't the first with this kind of setup, and since these trannies are electronically controlled, they won't be the last.

You loathe it because it doesn't have a rod sticking up with a know on top, right? The pushbutton is basically the same as the shifter handle in that neither are not physically connected to the transmission.

Too funny that you think we have overlooked the missing shifter. Trucks are using knobs now. I grew up around cars that had push buttons on the dash for shifting.

I like the new design. IMO, more cars will go that direction in the future.

*shrug* your post has nothing to do with the recall, BTW.

I agree about the post being off topic. The push button design was one of the reasons I leased this car. My wife has severe rheumatoid arthritis and has real problems with her shoulders. Not being obliged to use a shift lever is a real bonus for her. When you combine this is the easy steering in the regular IDS mode and the voice control, she doesn't have to reach for any controls or overtax her shoulders. It also allows the cupholders to be on the other side of the transmission which makes the entire centre console work better.

That makes 4 of us who love the new electronic gear selector. Guess you have to try and drum up support somewhere else. Now back to the topic of the thread (and my car is still fine)!

I also love the gear selector, it's one of the many nice features on my SH-AWD Advance in my opinion, however I did find myself looking for the gear shift to rest my hand on for the first few weeks, but I've gotten used to it now. Now, when I drive my wife's MDX I find myself forgetting about the gear shift and trying to just hit the On/Off button to turn the car off and put it in Park.

It appears I've been really lucky on these recalls, my car was built before they before they announced the ODMD firmware update (even though my car was in the VIN range 000769). I also checked my VIN on the site referenced above https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/ for the new transmission recall and it didn't come up on that list.

I'm not sure how I got so lucky, but I'm a happy camper.

Getting used to the gear selector was no issue for me. It ain't rocket science. I do like it more than the stick, but admit I miss resting my hand on the stick, but I've gotten used to it. I figure the next evolution will be the elimination of the shifting from between the front seats and allowing for bench seats once more... everything old is new again... *snicker*

BTW, to be more on-topic, I emailed dealership and they responded that they're awaiting official word from Acura on how to proceed before doing any work on the car for the tranny issue and it won't be until around January before I guess the recall is officially "released".

So bringin the thread but to topic. Does this mean that nobody can get a new TLX v6? I ordered mine a few months Avon and was supposed to get it next week, what does this mean for me? My car is transmissionless stuck in production limbo?

Assuming Acura has a fix and the required parts (if any) I'm sure they are doing all they can as soon as they can to restart/continue production and fix impacted cars in the VIN range. They can't afford to be without this car in their available lineup.

I picked up my Car 4 weeks ago, and mine is not a part of the recall, so it depends on the VIN.

There's no much info about the affected VINs or what's happening with ordered cars. Hopefully I'll get some info soon.

Hey, welcome to the V6 BWP/Ebony Advance club...
If you have your VIN, you can check to see if it's in the recall at www.honda.com/recalls. And, of course, you can also call your salesperson/dealership. You may not be affected.

They have a BWP arriving next week??? I know where my vote would go!

Good luck - it would seem there is light (reflecting off that awesome BWP paint) at the end of the tunnel.

That is a tough choice, repaired BCP or pristine BWP. Well with your luck the BWP will have an issue. I am obviously biased but I would still go with the BCP.

I am still leaning towards the BCP. The fact is was repaired doesn't really bother me as long as the repair is unnoticeable. I see it this way: The first dent is out of the way.

I know many here would not accept a repaired "new" car but, to me, I know what I am buying and what the car has been through.

I checked with my Salesman and he showed me their list of 6 cylinders in stock. There was roughly about 60% of them with the stop sell order that may have the issue. Mine is also one of them, although no issues to date. I do have a question. The slightly sticky shifts for the 2nd and 3rd gears seems to be more noticeable in ECO mode. What have others found?

^^ Tend to agree but you can also feather the accelerator to minimize the effect. It is not hard on mine compared to what other are reporting, so is not an issue for me.

I really don't consider this recall a big deal. It's not something that's going to leave you stranded. Just use your parking brake until Acura gets things fixed. Heck, the new BMW I8 is being recalled for a fuel leak. Driving a car that potentially could start on fire would worry me more.

it is making it tough on dealers, like the one I use, that has 16 cars he has to put on the side lot until Acura comes up with a procedure to test for the issue. From what I gather, it has not been easy to reproduce the problem.

So, until there is a test and a way to fix the problem, the cars will just sit!

True, and if it involves tearing into the tranny to check it out then it's going to be an expensive, time consuming recall.

Hindsight is 20/20 but it would have been nice if there was a feedback mechanism in the park system to let the ECU know that the pawl was in place.. *shrug*

Just read a post on the RLX forum about the jewel headlights are now on recall with a stop sale issued. This is very discouraging. With this, the suspension problem with the RLX and the transmission problem with the TLX what is going on at Acura? I am beginning to think just keep my bullet proof 2010 RL or jump ship to Lexus. This really confirms J D Power's rating of Acura as #25 out of 32 in initial quality. The day Volkswagen and Land Rover are higher is incredible. I know we will get the post that states "my RLX or TLX is great" but obvious something is wrong at Acura. When you go from #3 to #25 quality control is failing big time. This is based on the 2014 models. Next year's based on the post here referencing all the issues Acura might very well be #32.
