2018 TLX -A-SPEC - can Acura meet the demand?
Guys,
I am sure Montreal doesn't represent NA but still it's one of the largest cities in Canada. I have seen many, many TLX A-SPEC in my city but only ONE non A SPEC so far. How does it make sense? A-SPEC is a lot more expensive but also can Acura meet the demand? That could be one of the factors that the new TLX sales isn't very impressive. I am 100% sure the dealers don't have only A-SPECS. But it seems like people are going only after that model. Just to give you an example, last Sunday I saw two black A-SPECS within 16 KMs. I drive daily to work but not seeing any non A-SPECS make me worried. lol
Any observations from your side in other NA cities?

There's a whole lot more question on if the demand can meet the supply.

And even if we have a 2.4L A-SPEC. Weird. ..... well maybe less so when we see it priced at $44K CA.

- non A-Spec trims are bland/boring looking and blend in easily with the rest of the bland/boring looking cars on the road
- A-Spec trims stand out more therefore you notice them
- shoppers are turned off by the new grille, but the A-Spec kit helps to make up for it so people are buying those more

Here in Southern Cali, according to Cargurus, we have 8 SHAWD Aspecs for sale compared to 106 Aspec FWD. I stopped in my local dealership today and the salesperson was impressed that I have a AWD. Seems like they're sticking with the traditional allocation and not acknowledging that the ASpec SHAWD is the car folks want to buy. For Acura's sake I hope they come to their senses. Believe it or not finding an Advance SHAWD is also a difficult proposition. According to Cargurus there are only 7 for sale in all of Southern Cali.

I have yet to see a 2018 TLX in the Cincinnati Ohio area. Drove up and back to Chicago for a week; did not see any on the road, or in Chicago. Only ones I saw was at a Acura dealership up there on our way to Six Flags amusement park.

I've seen zero on the road. But at my dealer today to get my oil changed and I walked the lot. They have all colors and versions pretty much. Inside they had a blue with red interior and mutiple on the lot. I sat in it and I will say the red leather was very comfortable. But the interior head unit just seems old. But it was very familiar as all the buttons and switches felt like my current TSX and past TL. There's really very little learning curve moving to new acura models. And that is sometimes not good.

Based on who I see driving the TLX around here, I'm not surprised the new one hasn't resonated. The front just looks too aggressive for conservative tastes.

I did a fair bit of driving yesterday and saw five: three A-Specs (one with Washington plates) and two facelift 2018s. Fortunately none were red. When I went downtown (parked on Robson Street, a busy shopping and dining area) to have ramen with the family in the afternoon, we returned to the car to find a young couple checking out the car and admiring the colour. The guy said to me, “wow, that’s a nice looking car!”

Was next to a new black one at a traffic light. Still had the Monroney sticker on the window.

I live in NY/ tri state area, one of the largest populated areas in the USA and I have not seen any 2018 TLX Aspec, although I have seen 3 for sale on a recent visit to a an Acura dealer.
A lot of Q50, 3 series, A4's and C class. I am glad so this can give Acura a wake up call, in my opinion, there are lots of better cars out there than the TLX. Acura is doing really good with RDX/MDX and hopefully they do something to their sedan lineup.

I live in Tampa as well and have seen 2 White A-Specs on the Veteran's. It could have been the same car on separate days though. I'm keeping my eyes open and going to buy end of year or when 2019 comes out. I'm just looking for the A-Spec FWD at under 40K and prefer my total out the door at 40K. I have time so can wait out the dealership.

Even in the USA, Q50/60 Sales aren’t wow. Very close to TLX. C classs and A4s are insane. I see them like left, right and center lol.

I'm outside of Boston, and haven't seen any TLX A-Specs on the road but there are quite a few at the dealers in the area.

Around here in the NY/NJ area I've only seen 1 2018 TLX (with the new grill but non a spec) out there. I've seen no A - Specs "in the wild" besides my own. The guy who sold me my car told me that the the demand is outpacing the supply for the A-Spec (this is after he sold me the car on the day of pick up). Although, these are the words of a salesperson.

since the car came out I only saw one plain white tlx and just yesterday one blue a-spec on the road. but the dealer has plenty more then 20 a-specs in stock and I've driven 3000 miles already. I believe the dealers will be willing to negotiate

Hi,
I am also from Montreal, go at the dealer ( in my case Acura Metropolitain ) and you will see that there is a lot of TLX in stock, A-Spec or not as it is not available in 4 or 6 cylinders. And will all issues i have with mine (TLX SH-AWD 2016) not surprising that they have problem selling them. The 2 you have seen were problably the sale director and the service director that got them as part of their benifit. LOL
They still have 2017 in stock. As for me Acura is dead, never again.

Hi,
Happy to see that i am not the only one having issues with this dealership. The sales manager ( Kim ) does not care at all for the clients, the sale is close, live with your problems. LOL . I had an appointment with him to discuss the vibration issues as requested by Acura Canada. The half an hour he booked with me was so unplaisant, he was taking his cell call every 2 minutes, very un-profesionnal. I will never, ever recommand that dealer to my wrost ennemy. Audi is opening less than a kilometer from them, that will probably kill them ... LOL

I"ve seen 1 non-Aspec in the Northern Atlanta metro area. I have seen about 5 Aspecs in the last 2 months. The interior just doesn't match the aggressive exterior for me. I barely ever see Q50's. Just the same 2 that are in my town and one of those is parked one block away in my neighborhood. lol

As for Kim, that POS told me I was a "number one client", and told his co-POS employee Tho (only one authorized to sell Aspecs ...) to give me a good deal. Tho mentioned he'd call me back the next day, never did. Took a phone call from relations asking about my experience to force them to call me back. After speaking to Kim, Tho's best deal was $1500 off my lease, that's it. I said no and that I'd be heading to Audi for a test drive. Tho wanted to know when I'd call him back, left him a blank. They're dead to me too.

I see 2018 TLXs everywhere in Cleveland, but I haven't seen another A-Spec except at the dealer.

We have 2 dealers in the Triangle, population about 2 million. Combined inventory 13 A-Spec (all V6) out of 88 total 2018 TLX model year cars.

I don't need 400HP or F1 handling. I am pretty happy with my 4G and will continue driving it for a while before switching to the next Acura (MDX or TLX). If one day I am richer, then I will buy/lease a C63 or M4

The problem in Canada is there's no competition here. There are like four big auto groups and they own most of dealership. Good luck getting a good deal, especially on a well selling car which Acura doesn't even have. They know we don't have options here so why would they deal. They will throw you a bone and that's it. US is a totally different story. Dealers actually have to compete for businesses.
