Tein-s tech springs or H&R sport springs

Hey guys, I need some help choosing springs for my 05 TL. I have a choice btwn H&R sport springs with koni yellows or tein S techs with koni yellows. Which is the best setup? Thanks

From what I hear here, if you're going with the Koni Yellows, get the H&R sport springs. They were made for sport shocks.

If you're gonna be using lowering springs with your STOCK shocks, go with the S-Techs since they are OK to use with stock shocks.

It seems like you're gonna be going with Koni Yellows anyway, so I'd go with the H&Rs.

Also, depending on how much this all costs (H&R springs + Koni Yellows), it might be cheaper to go with a coilover setup.

With coilovers, you can adjust the height.

Thanks for the quick response. I was thinking about the tein basic coilovers. They are bout $810 usd + tax, shipping and duties, so might push it to like $1000 Cad. price of the koni + H&R package is $900 cad. The dampers in the tein basics are not as good as koni, I hear they are just entry level.I want to spend max 1000 bucks. My shocks are pretty shot right now cause i got lowered springs with stock shocks. Any thoughts on the tein basic coilovers? Do I need camber kits if I do the coilovers? Thanks

yes, tein basics are entry level, but if you're willing to spend a bit more than $900, you might as well go get the tein ss. much better ride quality. i adjusted mine to about 10 front, 11 back and it feels like stock, noting that it goes to 16

Hey shoxy131, where do you order your coilovers? The only site I know of is tein USA.

Also do I need to get a camber kit or any other suspension parts with the coil covers? I plan to drop the car about 1-1.5 inches. I know i have to get an alignment each time i adjust the height so I just want to do it once. The roads in Winnipeg are just rough with crater size pot holes so I don't want drop the car too much either. I got go with one of these set ups below. They not cheap but I think the quality is good. The prices differ slightly and most sites don't ship to Canada.

Tein ss- ranges $1080- $1350.00 USD

Tein basics: $810 USD

H&R + koni -$779 USD.

XLR8 Performance: Tein Basis $671.60

I recall one of the TLs I worked on last summer bought these coilovers from XLR8, and everything came to around $800.

They're also a vendor on here, so you can PM them if you have any questions.

The guys at XLR8 have a huge reputation here.

I didn't order it from the states to here, i had a hookup at the place i worked at before and JRP(a wholesaler in missisauga) sent it over to my workplace. i got it for about 1050 if i recall.. around that price range.

and no, you do not need a camber kit if you're only going 1-1.5 inches. i've had H&R springs on my previous TL without the koni yellows and lemme tell you, those springs dropped the car as low as i wanted to but the ride quality was bouncy as hell, i'd definitely go with the SS though i never tried basis before

i forgot to mention that they do not come with tophats so you have to use the TL ones, better if you order the tophats from tein if you're planning to get the SS. should be the same with the basis

Hey obi, welcome to AZ

My recommendation

... if you're planning to go lower than an inch I recommend you get at least rear camber kit. Not just to correct camber but also toe (incorrect toe is what will eat your tires).

... spend a little more money and get coilovers (you can thank me later)

good luck
