It's My Turn...

to propose!

July will be 4 years of dating...it feels like it's time.

I know what ring she wants (and her ring size). It's just a matter of ordering it (Blue Nile FTMFW) and then popping the question!

Here's the ring she wants:

It's not too fancy, and it's not all that expensive () compared to what's out there.

It's not a matter of whether or not she'll say yes (she's hinted about this in the past ), but how I'm going to do it. She's told me that she doesn't want a public proposal, but I don't think I should be popping the question while we're wearing PJs watching TV, lol.

I want it to be somewhat of a surprise and catch her off guard a little. I don't want to lead into it with an activity that isn't something we normally do (she may be suspicious). We will be going to San Simeon, CA the last weekend in April, so I was thinking of doing it then...but we'll have my dog with us so I dunno.

What do the wise AZine members think?

Hmm. Maybe I could do that when we're in San Simeon. She's a fairly heavy sleeper once she falls asleep...maybe I can attach it to the dog in the morning before she wakes up. Of course, the trick would be keeping the dog quiet, lol. Definitely an idea, though.

Wow, that sucks. I haven't considered insurance on the ring. I'll let her decide on that. lol

Uh, no. Insured before it touches her finger. That's not really debatable.

Good luck and congrats

+1 and +1.

It was around $5 / month to insure my wife's ring. Unless buying her a replacement ring is no sweat.

I don't trust animals and expensive, easily swallowed jewelry in the same location. Whatever you decide, honor her wishes and you really can't loose. I don't see why having the dog with you would prevent you from taking a walk on the beach where you could pop the question. I would make an effort to make it a memorable location, away from people.

Alright alright...I'll look into insurance. lol

The hotel we'll be staying at is across the street from the beach, so beach access is no problem. Perhaps it could be something as simple as "hey let's go check out the beach" when it's getting dark (banking on a sunset) or something like that.

Hmm...

lol

Well, it turns out that I won't be able to get the ring as soon as I hoped. It has to be special ordered (because of ring size) which is a 4 week lead time and I'm still waiting for a price.

Ugh.

Blue Nile is making you wait 4 weeks? Unusual even for a small ring size.

It's about $65 year on a 7-8k ring as a ryder on homeowners.

If you have AAA you also get a 10% discount at bluenile.

1. Take her to dinner and present it (or is that considered public?)
2. I took my wife on a horse&carriage ride around Boston Common - worked well for me!
3. If she wants real private - buy her some new PJs, etc and present to her the next time she sleeps over.

Good Luck man!

Just remember - marriage is not just a word - it is a sentence!

Ours is about $71 for the same price range. Worth the money.

Wow that's wack! Yeah before I signed the papers I double checked with my agent that jewelry wasn't a separate limit. I asked because I wanted to know if he wanted us to get her ring appraised.

Well, it's been slow going. I finally got around to ordering the ring. It was a bit more than I had planned for because of the sizing (she comes from a "stubby handed" family, as she puts it), so I was waiting until I saved some more money. But then, a gem came in the mail. A 12 month 0% intro APR credit card offer. Sweet! (don't worry, it'll be paid off before interest sets in)

Got the card in the mail last night and placed my order with Blue Nile this morning

I also applied for the basic AAA membership to get the 10% discount. When I told Blue Nile that I was an AAA member, they didn't ask me for my membership number! So..uh...is there a reason I should keep the membership?

Besides roadside service & towing, AAA has very good rates on home, auto, etc. insurance. Their offices provide travel planning and DMV services-- better than the DMV, IMO, and AAA has discounts @ various places, including amusement parks.

Oh, and after you propose!
